Toddler general anaesthetic

So my 2.4 year old got her thumb trapped in a door today. It's not broken. It has to have the nail bed repaired under general anaesthetic tomorrow. She has been sent home tonight. I didn't take her to hospital as I had the baby, my OH went. I have a few questions that he didn't ask and would appreciate anyone when has been through a situation where their toddler has had a general.

  1. Were you with them when they were put under?
  2. At what point did you get to see them when they woke up? Will she wake up without us their?
  3. were they housebound for a few days or can they be up and out of the house the next day?

Thanks in advance.

From my DS who has has two GAs. Yes you stay with them till they are under (though you will want to be there to comfort them, be prepared it feels quite emotional leaving them after they fall asleep)

We were invited down to recovery when they started waking him up. I was the first person he saw on both occasions and he tried to leap into my arms (although he was still disorientated). We went back to the ward with me cuddling him in my arms in a wheelchair (ward was quite some way from the theatre). On the day case, after recovery we were taken to a day room. He came to very quickly and we went home 2 hours later following some post op checks.

How things go smoothly today x

Yes absolutely as tweed le says, nurses in recovery are absolutely wonderful. They made a real fuss of my DS 😊
