Dd's glasses prescription. Confused. Advice needed?

Any opticians or knowledgeable parents around?
My dd(9) has just been for her annual eye test and her prescription has gone up yet again. I was wondering if anyone could explain it to me as all I know is it's quite high.

(R) Sph: +5.00 Cyl: 0.75 Axis: 10.0
(L) Sph: +5.25 Cyl: 1.75 Axis: 145.0

I'm worried the prescription will keep increasing every year as that is what seems to be happening. Two years ago when she was still attending the child eye clinic her prescription was only +3.25!
Then last year at the first test at the Optician it shot up to +4.75 +5ish and now it's gone up again.
I asked the Optician after the appointment today and he was just very passive about it.

Specsavers do an Ask the Optician service online. Google it. It's very useful.

It happens - mine did the same for 7 years in a row and then seemed to slow as I reached adulthood; and now I'm 26, I have a smaller prescription than I did for many of those years!

I don't think there's a huge amount that can be done. It's likely to stabilise at some point. I'm sorry the optician wasn't more helpful though.

Maybe book a 6 month appt, too?

That's actually where we went. I'll give it a go and see if the online optician is more helpful. He spoke to me like I didn't understand. I do, I always have and I know it won't magically get better pssshh!

can you go to a different optician for a second opinion?

Like the rest of the body, the eyes are still growing. That's why children need to have their vision tested more frequently.
As a pp said, the prescription should settle as they get older.

Yes, 2nd opinion is not a bad idea. I did this with my own eyes because I couldn't see out of my glasses for about 4 yrs from my regular optician. Now I have a different prescription and can finally see again!

She's quite long sighted, isn't she?
It's common for prescriptions to change a fair bit during puberty, DS1 has gone from -1 -0.5 to -6 -3! DS 2 from -6 to -2!

It will settle but she might have to go on 6 month recalls like DS1.

She's been put on a 1yr recall. THe Optician didn't seem worried.
How do I go about getting a 2nd opinion from another optician and if the result does differ what do I do then?

It's not a massive increase . There are 2 ways of writing a prescription. Did optician say it had increased.? As might just be difficult way of writing it.
You definitely can just go to another optician.
If she can see better wih new ones I'd say it's correct

I think others on this head are maybe talking about shirt sight increasing .
Long sight doesn't tend to increase every year.

Often children who are longsighted are undercorrected so the hospital may have deliberately given her a reduced prescription and the optician may have a reason for now more fully correcting her longsight. A prescription can also be written in + or - cyl form. If it is written in - cyl the prescription will look stronger than the same prescription written in + cyl form . Children generally become less longsighted as they get older but may need their longsight to be more fully corrected as they get older due to greater amounts of detailed closework

Helen. Yes he said there's a slight increase. What are your thoughts on the prescription itself? I'm led to believe it is severe long sightedness.

It's moderate I'd say. Not weak.but not strong.
Be inclined to say shed benefit from them.when older.
