Glandular fever and pe????

Took my son to the doctors lastnight and they said he has Glandular fever, my son being in the year before the last of high school dragged himself in today, I really diddnt want him too, however hes thinking of his exams ect as he wants to be a doctor so needs the grades.

Anyway to cut a long story short ive been reading a number of pages and people say not to do Pe, now I have said this to him and he has said that he will need a doctors note not to do Pe, our doctors will not do notes or this sort of thing, so I have said to stay off tomorow but he wont, any suggestions please?

How old is your son? Has the doctor said he can attend school with glandular fever? What does the school policy say about absence from PE?

Hes 14 and Doc said it was not infectious, school was not even mentioned, its been a hell of a week for a few reasons so I diddnt think to ask xx

My daughter ended up in hospital with glandular fever a few months ago. The doctor thought it was severe tonsillitis but she got really ill and a blood test at A&e confirmed GF it is contagious via saliva so sharing cups bottles cutlery etc. After my daughters diagnosis we found out one of her friends had had it. He shouldn't be at school he needs lots of rest of he could have complications that can last a long time . My daughter missed some of her exams because she was so ill she had dragged herself in to school thinking she had tonsillitis.The result was IV fluids antibiotics steroids and morphine. PE is a big no no as he could end up with a ruptured spleen. Please look at the NHS website for information Tbh your Dr should have advised rest and no sports. I hope he recovers soon

Oh god no, not PE. I had glandular fever at his age and just wanted to sleep all the time. Poor lad.

I am amazed he feels able to if he has glandular fever to be honest. Has he had it confirmed with a blood test?

I had glandular fever in year 10, could only attend school two or three days a week for about 3 months and couldn't do pe for the whole year.

No PE for 6 weeks. Increased risk of spleen rupture. As per specialist to DD.

God no. My dd was off for 5 weeks with it and went back, a phased return, in may. I wrote saying she wasn't doing pe for the rest of the term.
Her school was great.

I had glandular fever when I was 19 and at college- it was awful. I slept a lot and any tiny exertion wore me out. I was also told to avoid alcohol for a good while as the glandular fever can affect your liver (if your son is only 14 then shouldn't be a problem but just be aware).
I was told I was contagious in the circumstances already mentioned.
I was worried about college work and went back too soon. Please make your son rest as it took me a long time to recover.

Dd ended up in hospital with gf and suffers complications still (21months on). Definitely no P.e. And please don't push him into school, he needs to rest. Dd had a phased return.
