White sore on gum, don't think its an ulcer

DD has a long white sore along the top of her gum. Very painful. I don't think its an ulcer because its not round or oval and it just doesn't really look like one as its a really bright white. It actually looks a bit like the bit between the gum and lip is torn but with white stuff there instead of blood. What could it be? And what can I do to ease the pain? They don't sell bonjela in my country.

Here's a rather rubbish photo I tried to take of it, can barely see it in here.

In fact you can't really see it at all in that picture so ignore that i guess but try and picture something bright white, about a centimetre and a half long.

How bad is the pain op ?

Keep an eye that it's not an abbess,
Is oil of cloves available where you are ?

MissBeaHaving · 29/08/2016 20:53

Actually, thinking about it,it could be an ulcer.
Dd used to get huge ones when younger, she was low in VitB.

Natsku · 29/08/2016 20:54

Pretty bad, she screams in pain when anything touches it like food or touching her lip when washing her face.

I have got oil of cloves!

Is the gum throbbing or "just"sore on the spot?

Mrs.Morton is sometimes on at night,she's a dentist,hopeful she'll see this thread!

Have a Google,I'm pretty sure oil of cloves is used for mouth ulcers etc.
That and a dose of calpol/Nurofen.

Poor DD,if it's an abscess they get really painful & she will need seeing by a dentist for antibiotics

Natsku · 29/08/2016 21:06

Its just painful on the spot. Will give the oil of cloves a try in the morning then so she'll hopefully be able to eat breakfast.

Sounds like an abscess to me. Your poor dd, whatever it is sounds awful.

MissBeaHaving · 29/08/2016 21:39

Fingers crossed Op,if it is an ulcer rather than an abscess it's worth sticking to bland foods, for a bit.
No acidic or salty foods if possible for a few days, things like fruit, tomato sauces etc.will just irritate it.

If it's a fair size & very sore then they normally start to shrink not long after.

I really hope it's not an abscess & that she feels better soon.Flowers

Thanks. Feel so sorry for her :(

Can she remember banging her face on anything? That will cause that type of injury.

PullUpsAreTricky · 29/08/2016 21:53

hi it looks like an aphthous ulcer will heal in 10 days. try hot salty mouth rinses and plenty of pain relief. I'm a dentist.

Natsku · 30/08/2016 08:08

Hasn't banged her face.

OK pullups will try hot salty mouth rinses

Don't put oil of cloves on an ulcer! Ouch

Natsku · 30/08/2016 08:14

Oh, will it make it worse?

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 30/08/2016 08:18

I imagine it would sting a lot.

Natsku · 30/08/2016 08:41

Ah ok.

DD is awake now, just asked how it is and she said its not hurting as much now so I'll skip the clove oil. Hopefully its starting to heal now :)

thats great :) Yes, mouths heal quickly!

Natsku · 30/08/2016 10:09

Wouldn't say quickly, been well over a week now. Haven't had this much crying over eating since she had hand, foot and mouth (which was pretty much just mouth for her, poor girl). Oh well, so long as its better soon.
