How much paracetamol for a 27kg 7 year old?

Can anyone look up the dosage for me? We are on holiday in France and as the terrible parents we are, forgot the 6+ calpol, so I can't compare dosages. DS is complaining of growing pains which we normally treat with calpol. I think he'll be ok for half an hour or so.

We have adult 500mg paracetamol or infant 120mg calpol (that I don't want to use all of because it belongs to our friends.)

Can I give him half an adult one or is that likely to be too much? I'm not having much success go ogling on my phone.

6-8 year olds get 5ml so 250mg.

That's great, thanks. Sounds like 250mg is about right. I don't think it matters that one of he doses is a little higher. That gives us leeway if we don't manage to split it exactly.

As the infant one is pretty much half the dose of the 6 plus I would just give double the amount of infant one. So if he normally has 5mls of 6 plus give 10mls of infant

Yes but I couldn't remember what he has if normal because we've used the soft melts recently, wasn't sure what that was in relation to spoonfuls. Anyway thanks :)

Half a tablet doesn't necessarily give you half the dose. The paracetamol isn't spread evenly throughout the tablet. By giving half a tablet, you could give him 1/2 dose, no dose or s full adult dose.

You can dose at 15mg a kg( that's what we do in hospitals).

15 mg/kg. That's 405 mg. One tablet has 500 mg.

yes you should give 240mg (live in the Netherlands where we go on mg not spoonfuls)

You can give 320mg but less often. I would stick to 240mg

Ibuprofen is works for growing pains too.

Burn-I am a nurse and we regularly split tablets for doses. Some tablets have lines to facilitate, others don't but pharmacy advice is that it is fine to split tablets as long as they are not slow release or coated.

And yy the dose for op would be about 400mg!

Right well I gave him half (it had a line)crushed in a spoonfull of yoghurt and it seemed to do the trick. Thanks all! I felt 250(ish) was probably safest in the end

Burn than just is not true!

BNFC says 240-250 every 4-6 hours (4x per day) for a 7 year old.

BNFC says 15-20mg/kg for post op pain
