Recurrent tonsillitis and ear infections!

Hi mummies.
My ds is 11 months old and had had constant ear infections and tonsillitis. (16 lots of antibiotics!) They make him really poorly and he has been hospitalised in the past because of tonsillitis. Doctors have been great and referred us to ENT however the consultant said that he's a big boy and if he didn't eat for a week due to tonsillitis he wouldn't waste away! Whlist I appreciate he is a big boy (10lb at birth!) I don't feel it's right! I have now booked a private Consultation for this Friday at another hospital. Just wanted to know if anyone has had similar and much luck? And did anything work? I'm starting to loose the will to live, having a baby who is constantly poorly is very tough!

I feel your pain. My son who is 9 now went through something similar from ages of 8 months to 3 years . Constant permanent infections. Aside from feeling desperate for him I had also gone back to work and the constant illness and my own lack of sleep was debilitating. I was fortunate to have very understanding employers

My own son also developed a food phobia around this time and over the course of 12 months dropped from 90th centile to 2nd centile. Eventually we were referred to paediatric care, child psychiatrist, dietician and ent consultant who monitored for about a year or so. In the end he had his tonsils and adenoids removed and grommets inserted as soon as he turned 3.

Best thing ever! However the decision to remove tonsils was made not due to the infections but due to sleep apnea.

He is 9 now and still has an ear infection about once a year, but is healthy, in age appropriate clothes and growing rapidly

Also meant to say that my consultant would not do tonsil removal in private hospital due to lack of blood supplies on site and lack of specialist paediatric care. He works both nhs and private and referred him back to nhs for the operation. Not sure if this is standard in all areas or not though !
