DD 10, repeated abscesses round bum.

Not sure what to think.

About a month ago, I was bathing DD, when I felt a lump on her labia(?) further investigation showed a bright red swollen lump which hurt. Rang 111 and they told us to go to Aand E. They gave us antibiotics, about a weeks worth.

About 3 or 4 days after the mess were finished, more huge abscesses appeared. Back to A and E, given stronger medicine.

3 days after meds finished, they reappeared again. Back to doctors, more antibiotics. Am very stressed and worried as we don't know what is happening and why they keep coming back. Also we are going to France in a week, and dread what's going to happen if they come back (the doc gave us antibiotics to take if is should come back)

Why is this happening? They are all round her bum. They never form heads, just large (well huge)red infected lumps, that just keep coming back.

I'm starting to wonder what is happening, and it is worrying me a lot. Any advice. She's the picture of health in every other way.

You were bathing a 10 year old?

Try putting Savlon cream on them, and put a capful of Savlon in the bath water.
I know my dn had something similar and Savlon cleared them up. You can use Hibiscrub too.

At 10, did she not notice it herself? And why were you bathing her?

Don't be angry, there is no need to bath a NT 10yr old that intimately. Are they painful? Did she not notice before you discovered it?

No, she didn't notice them herself, although she said they had been hurting for a bit.

The 10 yo may not be able to bath herself. The op wants help sorting out the abscesses, not criticism re her care of her dd.

Why are you bathing her there? Have you not taught her to wash correctly by herself. Sorry but I find that a bit weird.

It does seem a little unusual to be intimately washing a 10 yr old though. I thought you meant 10 months.

What did the doctors say they thought it was?

They were just at the top of her leg. After I had found that one, l looked further, and there loads of them, but some were little and some much bigger.

They seem to be infecting by contact across her bum cheeks. They are all round her anus and where her buttocks meet, as well as some further up at the curve of the top of her legs

The doctor didn't know, they said if they keep coming back they'd refer her.

I'm getting really worried about them. If they won't move with 2 lots of strong antibiotics how are they going to go?

Is it Molluscum Contagiosum?

Impetigo?

I suspect she has that as well. I've noticed what l think is Molluscum too, after closer infection. But the abscesses don't seem to appear where the Molluscum was. They just appear as huge red lumps with no surface evidence at all

Need to rule out diabetes and Crohns disease as underlying causes,
so she needs further investigation by the GP.

I don't think it's impetigo. These are huge red lumps, bigger than a £2 piece.

The hospital tested for diabetes. It was negative. I've looked at Chrons, but she just doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. She's very tall for her age and usually really healthy.

Could she be allergic to something? Washing powder? The material on her pants?

And l wasn't bathing her that intimately. I was knelt at the side of the bath, talking to her. I just swooshed water round her and accidentally felt them ( not that should have to justify it)

Blimey sounds like she needs referring now - it could be that they aren't the correct antibiotics (or not strong enough or taken for long enough perhaps) to shift it properly.

Or it's something else altogether.

My GP gave DD completely inadequate antibiotics to shift her Strep A but fortunately we saw the dermatologist who sorted out the correct type & strength.
