What to include in hospital bag for DD's op?

Hi all

DD(10) is having an operation under GA next week, hopefully as a day case.

The letter says she can have the op in her own clothes so was thinking of t-shirt and jersey shorts (op site is her foot).

So far I'm thinking for her bag:

Dressing gown/blanket from home
Favourite cuddly toy
Magazines
ipad?
Maybe a few sucky sweets for post recovery

Anything I've obviously missing/any tips?

Stuff for you:

Something to occupy/distract you while you're waiting. Knitting/book/magazine/music/etc. Have at least two things.

Food. There will probably be a cafe and/or canteen but hospital food is variable, and if you are there longer then expected you'll be pleased to have food available to you.

Ridiculous amounts of change for the overpriced tea/coffee machine and car park.

Water bottle
Compact squash bottle (because if you have to refill your water bottle often the water tastes yuk)
Lots of food for you
A set of joggers/tshirt/pants/socks for you in case she does have to stay
Hairbrush/wipes/deo in case
PJs for her
ipad/kindle/phone + charger

iPad/book/generally something to amuse her as you may have to wait a while before she can go down to theatre.
Pillow from home because hospital ones are generally really uncomfortable.
Strepsils or lozenge things because she will be intubated while she is under the GA and this can cause a sore throat.
Definitely agree with food, water and change for the coffee machine!

Good idea about the throat lozenges for post-intubation Spuriouser and yes to lots of change needed too.
