two week old taking eating too much?

My 2 week old DD was 6.5lb at birth, and has been a bit of an eating machine.

My DS was the same (good eater/hungry baby), but she is having no problem sinking a 4oz bottle every 2/3 hours Hmm.

I read that her stomach will still be tiny at this age - am I mistaking her rooting/sucking hands for hunger?

She is EBF by the way, I'm expressing because my nipples hurt.

Can anyone give their advice?

Thanks

She can't eat too much at this age. Just feed her !

I agree! Maybe she's just a hungry baby!

However, my MW told me that when babies are breastfed (on the breast) they automatically stop when their stomach is full. On the bottle they can sometimes take more than what they need...as in overeat. My LO had a bottle at times when he as about 10 days old and took 5oz at one feed and then had another 1oz about half an hour later...she said he just wasn't sure when to stop.

But i would still feed her if she's drinking it. Better more than less. Wouldn't want her to be hungry! Smile

Ha my bf (from the boob) dd would feed for hours in the evenings and a couple of times she projectile vomited because her tummy was so full, she was always starving - I think it got more normal about the 8 week point

Have a look at paced bottle feeding - it's important with breastfed babies as it mimics the natural feeding pattern. There is info on it here: kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/feeding-tools/bottle-feeding/

Breastfed babies tend to feed often as the milk is quicker to digest.

Thanks for your advice, I would have replied sooner only I always seem to be feeding Grin

That's a good link, lots of good bottle feeding tips.

I feel a bit more reassured now, and it's good to know some of you have bottomless babies too.
