Please? I've been given chloramphenicol for her which is a bitch to apply (any tips?) and her little face looks so odd where one eye looks bigger than the other. She's only 10 weeks old Sad

Yes my son did. He had a constantly watery eye and eczema on his cheek near his eye. He would regularly get conjunctivitis. The HV said it was likely to clear before he was 12 months and it did. But if it doesn't there is a minor procedure they can have. He was still prone to conjunctivitis for a few years but nothing for a couple of years now (he's coming up 6).

I don't think we ever massaged. Nobody told us to.

I cant see that anyone has already suggested this...
Before you try massaging it, hold a warm flannel over their eye, should loosen it up a bit. My ds2 was older when he got it, but about as cooperative as a new baby Wink

My ds had this and we had to massage it daily otherwise they were going to unblock it with a procedure at the hospital.

Knew i had a picture. Here is his, it took about six months to go away completely

Dd was born with a blocked tear duct and we had to do the massage, together with making sure it was moist with (?) saline (?) solution.... it was a while ago now, but I can't remember her hating the massage particularly, and it cleared up eventually. Best of luck to you OP

Beyond thanks for the tip. Can I ask, was your ds' infected? I ask because my dd's doesn't look like that. It's not red, is bigger and slightly further down than that.

I've been massaging for a week and it's not made any difference. No discharge at all. Today it got bigger again. It's encroaching further into her eye and making it look so strange. I'll be calling the eye clinic again in Monday but I'm so worried all over again for her Sad

They are now talking surgery, it may be a cyst. Waiting to see the consultant.

Now looking for stories of successful surgery in small babies please!

Also she's been prescribed a different antibiotic drop called Exocin. I'm concerned as it says not to use in children under one year, or for longer than ten days. We've been told to use it for 14 days. Will carry on with the chloramphenicol until I've spoken to my local pharmacist tomorrow.
