DD9 has 19 of theose spots/ blisters on her thighs and behind her knees. All in a concentrated area. They have been there for towards 2 years now. We have been to the GP 4 times to be told to leave it no treatment and they will go soon. But they are really bothering her. They hurt and today one popped and was bleeding. Going to make another appointment. Has anyone please got any experience of this and know anything to get rid of them? Poor thing is in bed in tears again I feel so helpless.

With treatments for molluscum its impossible to know if they work or whether they would have cleared up spontenously if they had been left a alone. My daughter was not excluded from swimming as the sports centre saw no risk to other children because the pool is heavily chlorinated. She wore waterproof plasters over spots as double protection.

A lot depends on the age of a child. I think it would be hard to get a very scared four year old to cooperate with the curette or apple cider vinger or Molludab. I still believe that GPs are right in the cure is often worse than the problem.

DS2 has them at the moment, although they are starting to pop. This is our current favourite...

I had three kids with molluscum and used a number of products to treat it. Molludab was one. It is a potassium hydroxide (caustic potash) based product and was OK on bigger molluscum bumps but a bit harsh. It wasn't much good on small bumps though, burning the skin surrounding them. We also used Conzerol and Zymaderm both from the US but these were next to useless (more hipe than reality I'm afraid). Overall, the best product we found was Mollenol which came in a standard and a sensitive version. One thing I would advise is to get on to it quickly - dont take the drs advice to just leave it, it just spreads and spreads. Hope this helps others. Smile

You need to put a plaster on this. The molluscum virus is in the pus and if the pus touches other parts of her body or other people it will spread. See www.mollenol.com/molluscum-contagiosum-treatment-for-children/

It's okay, plaster was removed for the photograph. It's popped and scabbed over now. DS is strangely disappointed, as he'd become quite fond of it.

NotAQueef · 29/06/2016 14:27

It's horrid isn't it. DS had them for about 5 months or so all over his body (started just at his armpit) Once they eventually started to pop and scab over they healed and disappeared (some faint white marks left) but this happened in patches so took ages!
Your poor DD having them for two years

GruUp · 10/08/2016 23:27

DS has had this for about 5 months. 10 days ago one got very inflamed and infected and burst of its own accord. Might I expect the others to start to clear up now? No sign of change so far.

This is my son arm. He also had them on his torso, arm pits and thighs. He has had them around 6 months. There was just one to start with. WHY the GP didn't just say to cover it I don't know Sad would maybe avoided this.

Do you think they are on their way out now as lots of bobbly red almost skin tag shaped raised spots now (only larger) with yellow pin head sized centres.

Some have popped. One I squeezed and it popped, one I poked out with a sterilised needle.

I've been covering the worst ones up with plasters but that's setting off eczema so no good. I just don't want them to spread further.

We've managed to keep them covered up with long sleeved tops but he will get so hot in summer Sad

Any advice. I hate seeing him like this. He doesn't like them either and sometimes they itch.

Yes once they start to pop they will probably be on the way out. It triggers an immune response and the body will start to get rid of them.
Both my two younger sons had them, I had it when pregnant, when mine burst all my lymph nodes came up for a couple of weeks near the spots and then they healed over and went.

ColdCottage · 15/04/2018 10:09

Thank you.

They often disappear quite suddenly after the body reacts in this way. Don't rub creams on as this can potentially spread the virus. Best management is to ignore them.

Beth2537 · 21/04/2018 17:21

My son suffered from this for just under a year and slowly they disappeared, he still has 2 very tiny ones. I used a few drops of tea tree oil in bath which seemed to help. A freshly washed towel after every bath and pjs/clothes
every day. Don’t rub with towel or I found leave area to dry naturally.

hackneyzoo · 24/04/2018 10:09

Two or my children have had them and they both went away under different circumstances. Might just have been coincidence though:

DD had them for about 6 months. We went on holiday for two weeks last summer and they disappeared afer 14 days of swimming in the sea, which made me wonder if the salt water helped.

DS had them and eczema, which got badly infected and he ended up with impertigo. The GP gave him a course of antibiotics and the mollouscum went along with the impertigo.

It sounds like INTERTRIGO. Best thing to do is to keep it covered with towel or wash clothes cut to size to protect clear skin from getting the INTERTRIGO infection while absorbing the pus from bumps. It will clear up in just one weekend.
