Alternatives to circumcision - any success stories?

11yo DS has a very tight foreskin which has never retracted and has been referred to a urologist, with circumcision of course being mentioned as a solution, though the doc did say something about 'surgical stretching' as a first step. At the moment DS has some steroid cream which is supposed to stretch the skin a bit, but GP didn't seem particularly hopeful that this would work.

Just wondering what other people's experiences have been - have you managed to avoid circumcision in a case like this? And did you have to have a fight with healthcare peeps not to immediately send your DS straight for the chop? Really don't want to if it's not 100% essential.

Yeah, it might be better if that type of information came from the doctor rather than his mother! Grin

LOL both his father and I were OMFG no way! One of the most cringe making consults with a doctor ever!

One of my ds was born with a weird looking foreskin. We tried reconstruction, then he was circumcised- which I wish we had done in the first place.

Immediately after, he was withholding urine as it was painful when he started peeing. This lasted about a day.

Very glad he was a little boy, though. I felt very sorry for the teenagers having it done as they have to deal with erections. At the time, DS only got them when watching Tom & Jerry!

Wrt withholding urine- peeing in the bath helped and also into a cup of warm water over the toilet .
