My 15 year old DD has been prone to headaches all her life, particularly from excessive noise. So, a classroom where the noise level isn't controlled, cinema on occasion, etc.
She had a bug a couple of months ago with a headache and feeling sick (as did others in the family). Since then she has had headaches on/off but not enough to keep her off school.
This latest one started late Friday. She has been taking paracetamol regularly but it hasn't helped. I've tried to get her to alternate with ibuprofen but, historically, it has never worked for her so she has resisted.
Things she has tried -:
Darkened room - no change
Lots of liquid - no change
Hot bath - no change
Cold flannel on head - no change
Today she has had some paracetamol with caffeine. It reduced the pain for about an hour and a half but has not taken it away. She is watching the clock for when she can take more medicine.
I have made an appointment to see the GP on Friday with a view to cancel if needed.
So, I don't know if I'm being a slack mum and should be pushing for an earlier appointment? I have no personal experience of migraines and have no idea what is reasonable or not.
Also, 2 of my brother's friends died from brain haemorrhages so I am trying not to let those experiences affect my judgement.
