how long would you let a cough go on fir before seeing a dr?

dd2 seems otherwise well but after a cold a couple of weeks ago the cough hasn't really shifted.

no wheeze no temp and no complaints of anything hurting. don't want to waste a drs time as I know these things can go on for a bit. but it's got to the point I'm wondering if it's worth getting her seen.

Our doctors have posters up saying three weeks for a cough if it's not cleared. Hope that helps, I would take sooner if they had other symptoms as well. Your right they can go on for weeks and DD has ended up coughing for a long time after colds before now.

My GP friend has said that viruses are much more, well, virulent this year: lasting much longer than usual. I also know from experience, having myself had one for three sodding weeks.

Mind you after 3 weeks in a child I'd be considering GP to check for infection.

How old is she, by the way just so you know. Is the coughing worse at any time of day at all?
Some things that you expect would present with a wheeze don't and they only get coughing. So it is worth getting checked out of it doesn't clear up.

hmm it's not been three weeks yet. she's hardly ever ill hand hasn't had to see a dr in over 2 years. possibly more.

it did die down for a bit but she's coughing quite badly this morning but seems otherwise fine..

I have an. older dd who is asthmatic amd it doesn't represent like it did/does with her.

but it is worse in the morning at the moment

As you have a family history just be aware asthma can present as just a cough. DS only every has a wheeze when he's so bad be already needs storids.

But as it's in the morning it's more likely just the virus these things can drag on. If your doctors are anything like ours then it'll take you a week to get an appointment. Why not make one for next week and if it's cleared up by then you can always cancel it.

My GP said 3 weeks for a cough when I had a telephone consultation about DDs persistent cough. They were right as it did finally start to tail off at around the 3 week mark. Like your DD, mine was otherwise well.

Well we have been amd now I feel a right tool. all is fine. she has a gland up amd her throat is a bit red but unless she starts wheezing or gets worse I don't need to go back

so I basically just took a perfectly healthy child and wasted an appointment
