Multiple admissions for pneumonia

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced their child having been admitted to hospital a few times for pneumonia. Child in question isn't even 2 years old yet.

We have been referred to a specialist after our most recent trip, but I suppose I am looking to hear of any other mumsnetters who have been through similar and what if any investigations were done?

Also, any tips for persuading a sick child to eat or drink (she asks desperately).

Anyone? On a good note, she is eating and drinking well now !

Is it aspiration pneumonia? Does she have a problem swallowing?

I don't think it is. She doesn't seem to have a problem swallowing and didn't really have major reflux as a baby. The first occasion was caused by the RSV virus and other times I think have been triggered by a virus but turned nasty.

Sorry, I have professional and personal experience with aspiration pneumonia but no idea about children and bacterial/viral pneumonia. I hope she's better soon. It must be a worry.

was she born prematurely ?

My daughter had it a couple of times as a youngster, the first time they thought it was meningitis they tested her for CF (it wasn't on the heel prick then) but I think it was just put down to 'one of those things' She not even had so much as a chest infection for the last fourteen years, so I think it was bad luck.
We were refered to a specialist dietician at discharge and she was put on a high cal, give her what she'll eat type diet. She was prescribed some nutri milkshake type drinks for a while too. I used to freeze them as she wouldn't drink them, but would eat them as an ice cream

Thanks all. She wasn't premature and thankfully her CF test came back yesterday as clear.

The hospital suggested an immune issue but I guess we will have to wait and see. Thank you all again :)

Sometimes babies who've had bad cases of viruses like rsv when they were very young can be more prone to chest infections over the next few years, but as far as i remember unless theres another underlying problem they tend to grow out of it. is she well inbetween times? it sounds like the hospital are quite on top of looking into it which is good! hope shes on the mend now!
