Apologies that this is somewhat trivial compared to some health concerns but wondered if anyone had any experience to share. We let our 9yo dd have her ears pierced last weekend as she had been thinking about it for the last few months and had decided she was ready. I was adamant not to have it done at Claire's but after contacting many salons and jewellers in several local towns we couldn't find anywhere else so I decided I was probably just being a bit snobby and we went ahead at Claire's. We paid £50 for the 18ct gold studs though in the hope she would be less likely to react to them. After a few days it became apparent that one of them was becoming embedded in her lobe, the actual stud not the back. I know the obvious answer is to take it out and get her some antibiotics. However, it's not actually stuck, we can rotate it and push it back and forth. We are keeping it exceptionally clean with tea tree oil and cooled boiled water several times a day. Mostly though, it's not hurting her and she really doesn't want to take it out especially as the other side is fine. It is obviously red and swollen though and I'm keeping a very close eye on it. My question I suppose is, am I fighting a losing battle or has anyone managed to overcome this? I'm totally kicking myself for going against my better judgement now as some googling has shown apparently this is quite common with the guns they use at Claire's. When I had my ears pierced they were done with hoops so this couldn't happen.
