Shes 14yo, generally fit and well.

Night before last she suddenly started screaming that her leg hurt and she couldn't walk on it. Major aching pain. She doesn't seem to have pulled it, wasn't doing anything noticable to cause the sudden onset. She says it hurts all the time, isn't made worse by movement.

She had similar a year ago when she had shingles but she doesn't have a shingle rash at the minute so don't think its that.

Yesterday morning I found her "collapsed" on her bedroom floor. She reckons she'd been unconcious for 20 mins as she had got out of bed at half six and "came round" just as I came in. I have no idea how accurate this is. Her leg was still very painful and she was screaming as I tried to help her up. I told her she shouldn't go to school but she insisted she went. legstill hurt when she csome home.

This morning her leg still hurts, she feels generally unwell, she says it hurts to breath and keeps saying that she can't breath.....but to me she doesn't appear to be struggling to breath. Leg still hurts. She says she often feels dizzy and odd. She has also got weird little marks/bruises on her legs. I think she picks at any spots, ingrown hairs, etc but some of the marks she's hd for ages and don't seem to be healing very well.

I rang the Dr at 8am but by the time I got through the queue all the appointments for today have gone. They've made an appointment for the end of next week.

Can you get shingles without the rash? Might it be a virus?

Does she faint regularly? Or do you not believe that she actually had collapsed yesterday?

middlings · 25/02/2016 12:50

Am possibly freaking you out but I know someone who jarred his leg slightly (barely noticed it happening) and ended up in surgery 12 hours later due to compartment syndrome.

I'd be erring on the side of caution and giving her a bollocking about crying wolf if it turns out to be nothing

Op my dd had similar symptoms. We went to a go appointment and were told to go straight to the children's ward at the local hospital where she was admitted straight away whilst they carried out tests. They took her symptoms very seriously. They tested for everything from diabetes to leaukemia. Please go and have her seen.

To a gp appointment

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 25/02/2016 20:23

How is she OP? Did 111 (or 101, I can never remember! ) send her to hospital? I hope everything is okay x

Have got back from the out of hours Dr.

They've diagnksed Her with stress and not eating enough.

She doesn't eat breakfast or lunch. She takes a pack up (her choice) to school every day and it comes back uneaten. She says she doesn't have time to eat as school only has a 20 min lunch break which is something I complained to school about when they went forrom a 30 min break to a 20 min break last year. It takes her between 5 and 10 mins to walk somewhere where she can eat and then by the time she's got settled she says she has to leave again for afternoon lessons.

Ive told her for ages she won't feel well if she doesn't eat , hopefully hearing it from a nurse will have more Impact.

She's agreed to let me give her a lift to school rather than getting the bus as I will get her there a bit quicker and she can have breakfast at the canteen or even eat toast in the car. I don't think she would take toast to eat en route on the bus as its not cool.

She's also agreed at lunch time she will try to eat as soon as she gets to where she eats rather then faff about starting art work course work. I pointed out for between five and ten mins it's not worth getting books out, she can't actually do anything!

I'm also going to ring school (again) and ask if she can drop german. I rang and asked her german teacher this before half term and she said no but I will ask the head of year tomorrow. She's going to fail the gcse, is dyslexic and struggling big time. She's not coping with the stress of it and. Don't see the point of another 15 months of stress. She's now also struggling with physics and I would rather she dropped german and concentrated on science.

She has a german exam tomorrow which counts for 15% of her final mark. She has to memorise two sides of a4 and doesn't know any of it. We're now watching Adventure Time rather than revising!

TBH, at that stage in the game, film probably a good move. (if aural, can she re-take - recently had conversation with a lad her age (with SN, mind) who got several chances)

Get over this particular stage and work out a plan to avoid this (late in the game) reaction again.

BTW - leg pain - any chance she was ovulating?

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 26/02/2016 06:40

Not ovulating but she has got her period so maybe weird tummy cramps spreading yo legs?? She's ketotic which the nurse said would make her muscles feel awful.

eurochick · 26/02/2016 07:06

Fainting can be linked to periods too.

eternalopt · 26/02/2016 07:30

20 min lunch break in school is ridiculous. They need more of a break than that

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 26/02/2016 19:05

I've rung the HoY this morning and she's rung me back this afternoon after our morning chat with a plan.

For the next week dd will get a pass to allow her to leave morning lessons five mins early so she will get 25 mins for lunch. HoY has told dd she's got to stop trying to do class work at break time and lunch time. She's talked to her about eating and the pastoral lady is going to do the same.

She's not allowed to drop german as if she does HoY says she won't have enough gcses and that it will look bad. I'm not convinced this is quite right as dd is doing RS as a full gcse as she's in top sets and other kids not in top sets don't do it as a gcse. She's also staying late after school one day a week to do art as an extra gcse as school couldn'nt let dd do art and graphics as they clash and she wanted to do both.

I said I'm worried she will fail german and possibly science where if she dropped german she could concentrate on her science. HoY says she won't fail german, that they will put in enough support to make sure she passes. She's going to talk to the Senco to see if dd needs more dyslexia support.

Dd had 3/4 of a slice of toast for breakfast. Half a small box of salad and a banana for lunch. Massive pizza for dinner. She is still complaining she feels generally unwell and with a headache, seems to be drinking ok.

Its shocking the stress kids feel under at school and sad for you and your ds that you are going through this. I absolutely wouldn't know but she seems to be eating nothing for a teenager. Have you considered she may have a mineral deficiency perhaps anemia? Could she possibly have more serious eating and food issues?

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 28/02/2016 15:47

Ive bought her a multi vitamin and iron supplement and given her a big talking to about food. She ate a roast dinner yesterday and we've been to Waggammas for lunch today. So I was kind of thinking probably not an ED. We've got an appt at the GP in a few days which im keeping.

Smile. Good luck!
