scarlet fever

Just had the letter from school and now we're on high alert - trouble is, DD is a bit of a hypochondriac, so her complaining about a funny tummy tonight has left me wondering...

When does the rash appear, how serious is it, how seriously should I take her complaints?

it usually starts with a fever and feeling generally like shit unwell. then after a day or so the inside of her mouth will be impressively raw and red (scarlet red).
the throat pain is something else.

DS had fever and feeling unwell then the sandpapery rash on his torso after a day or so. He had a bit of a sore throat but tbh he wasn't really that bad after a couple of days. Was happy to have the time off school to stay home and play!

Thanks Now I know what to look out for. I was expecting the rash first, the way the letter put it...

I suspect my son has this. He's been very lethargic, tearful, quiet, sore throat and thickly coated tongue which is now bright red and shiny. Still tearful and off his food. GP tomorrow.

Though, from what I've since read (just to be on the safe side) it sounds very mild and nothing to worry about in comparison to what our parents/grandparents would have had to contend with. Antibiotics and all will be well.
