Hello
DD started with a temp on the evening of Christmas Day.
It's been consistently 39.5 but does come down with calpol / ibuprofen for a couple of hours then shoots back up
Yesterday she woke up and seemed more herself, temp was fine but by the afternoon it was back up to 39.5 again. Same today, woke up fine but by lunch it's high again

I've just got back from the doctors with her, he felt some lumps on her neck and said she's fine.
I'm no doctor but a 2 year old child that has slept solidly for 5 days, not eating and drinking very little doesn't seem fine to me?
After getting home, i realised that he didn't look in her mouth, or ears.
Would you get a 2nd opinion?

Just back from the hospital.
So the ambulance came, all her vitals were fine other than her temp and drowsiness, she didn't even flinch when they did a finger prick for blood. So took us off to the hospital.

She has an ear infection in both ears and inflamed tonsils
She's on a course of antibiotics

I'm really annoyed at the GP, this could have all been sorted yesterday if he had checked her properly. I feel awful for wasting the precious time of the ambulance and hospital staff

But thank you all so much for your advice and replies, I really appreciate it Thanks

Oh good grief the poor thing.

:(

And don't worry about the staff and ambulance. you had no choice. they absolutely will not be cross with you. their beef will lie with the Dr who missed a double ear infection and refused to see her again. not the mum who refused to be fobbed off.

I'd write a letter to the GP, and have done in the past where our GP didn't examine DS properly, or recommend the correct treatment. Was taken very seriously.

I would talk to the practice manager op. That's not on.

Glad she's ok.

tickleyourpickle · 30/12/2015 15:14

I will be making an appointment with the practice manager, this is not the first time something like this has happened
On other occasions they have done something similar resulting in both children being in hospital
One of the doctors got a personal phone call from the hospital consultant treating my DS last year when he was admitted!

I'm going to look into changing surgeries

Oh, your poor wee sausage.

I'm glad you are taking this further, what sort of idiot doctor misses two ear infections and inflamed tonsils?

I hope DD is back to her normal self as quickly as possible.

Another update

DD ended up back in hospital, she was still no better with her temperature and developed a terrible cough and was struggling breathing.
So on top of the ears and throat infection she also has a chest infection

They've put her on stronger antibiotics now so really hoping to see an improvement soon

Also, I have an appointment on Monday with the practice manager and doctor to discuss what's happened

Horrible that she had to go back in. In my experience, hospital staff don't hold back if if they think there's been an error in diagnosis. .

Hope she's ok, awful she ended up back in hospital, but the right antibiotics will hopefully do it.

Give your GP hell for this enormous oversight. Checking ears and throat is the most obvious thing to do with a toddler with a temp. My own GP failed to see bacterial tonsillitis in my eldest. I had to Google, compare pictures, then ring back.
