Intercostal recession

Each time my15 month old Gets a cold she ends up with a bad chest and struggles to breathe. Currently has intercostal recession and a tracheal tug. Had it a few weeks ago resulting in GP sending us to the hospital. She improved almost immediately that time after using a nebuliser. Hospital sent her home later that day.

I've given her the nebuliser this time and she has improved although she's not 100%. At what point should I see the GP again? Don't want to be neurotic but don't want to underplay either.

Any tugging should be checked.

And I wouldn't be waiting for GP tomorrow, if she is tugging now she needs OOH or a and e.

Referral to respiratory specialist after this but or at least to a general paediatrician to see why.

If struggling now a and e unless you have steroids at home to give

Now. Any recession is a sign of respiratory distress and needs reviewing.

Yep, have to agree. DS had a wheezy cough and slight recession, no tug. Took him for out of hours today and very glad I did as he had a chest infection.

I've got a fair bit of experience with this, and yes, recession and tug should always be seen same day.

What's the breathing rate?

Might be worth asking for an immune system review. My son had a lot of this in his first year of life and it turned out that he has low cd4 cells and therefor easily catches things quite badly. He has been on prophylactic antibiotic for almost a year now and no more similar problems.
