Anyone have dc who are "fainters"?

DD11 fainted for the first time on Xmas day last year. Got out of bed fine, had a wee, complained of having a tummy ache and fell onto the bathroom floor. She was an awful colour. We took her downstairs and she threw up once. Spent the rest of the day resting on the sofa and completely fine by the next day.
Our GP was concerned so referred her for various tests. The conclusion was that this was a simple fainting episode.
Last night she was at a sleepover. Had a call this morning to say she was not feeling well. By the time I arrived she was a horrible colour and had been sick. Again, she's spent the day recovering and is just starting to feel better. She tells me that she was fine when she woke up but felt "weird" when she stood up, so laid on the sofa and was then sick.
Do I need to be concerned that this has happened again? DD is quite upset that it has happened again and is feeling very sorry for herself. Anything I can do to help her/avoid it happening? She just looks so poorly when it happens.

My girls aren't fainters but both my dsis and I were/are. I can control things better now but it took about 10 years various departments in the hospital and numerou doctors to get to that stage.
We discovered, eventually, after a tilt test that my blood pressure which is already really low drops when I get up. I also have a really slow pulse which contributed to it.
As long as I ensure that I eat properly, drink lots and don't stand suddenly I am not too bad now.
Does your dd ever get a "funny" feeling like losing strength in her hands? That tells me I need to sit and have some water.
I hope you get it sorted soon. With me, it seems it isn't too serious but it caused a lot of worry in the years before we found out and when the same thing started with my sister it was really alarming.

Not mine, but I was. Vasovagal attacks apparently.

Anaff - that's interesting about your slow heartrate. When DD was being checked out after the first episode she was found to have a slight heart murmur and an irregular heartbeat. After various ecgs and a heart scan the cardiologist concluded there was nothing sinister going on.
When you were younger did you faint more at exciting times? DD has fainted at Xmas and a sleepover, and I'm tempted to think there is a link.

I am a fainter. Have been since a baby. Low blood pressure. Mine is when ill or if I have a sudden shock or am hurt. Always sick once when I come round then ok. If feeling ill I drink something sugary. Doesn't happen often though.

Hitting puberty might have an effect too. Painfull periods did me in. My mum was same. If it keeps happening she will get used to the warning signs/sensations. Tell her if she feels like she is going to faint to lie down on the floor until it passes. It won't always stop the faint but it will stop her getting hurt as she falls.

my eldest ds was a fainter it started when he was in year six just out of the blue he was at school and just fainted.
it happened off and on for a few years.
after several tests the doctor told us he wasn't getting enough salt in his body and to start adding extra salt to his meals, so he has been doing that. he is 18 now and he hasn't fainted for a couple of years.

No rhyme or reason why I fainted. My blood pressure was and still is low but it was the drop with sudden movement that made it worse.
I agree, you get to know the feeling and can mostly prevent it happening.
It started at puberty and was quite controlled until I was pregnant. The fainting resulted in me having be dress whilst pregnant with dd2. It was a nightmare.

I used to be a fainter, as with Ana no rhyme or reason. I had low blood pressure, it's just naturally got higher as I've gotten older I think. Pain in the backside cos i had to wait until it'd stopped before i could learn to drive.

have a look at STARS which is a fantastic charity for all different types of faints - DD2 (who has PoTS) and I have had an immense amount of help and support from them.

Pooseyfrumpture · 03/11/2015 15:15

I was also a fainter, had various tests as a child - usually when feeling unwell anyway or during blood tests/tooth extractions/allergy tests. Blood pressure is generally low. I can feel it coming now, but it's scary for those watching because there's generally thrashing around.

Poosey yes me too! I once blacked a woman's eye Blush
