What is the weight/height/build of your 10 year old ?

I'm just interested to see how my son compares to other boys his age, and if there are any issues other people face regarding weight height and build. My DS is 4 foot 9 and weighs 7 stone 4 pounds. Using the nicest terms I can I'd say he is very plump indeed.

So please tell me about your 10 year old and how they compare :)

Maybe not a good comparison as it's my DD and not a boy, but she's just turned 11 and is 4ft 8in, 5st 10lb and very slim build. I suppose its all relative as i'm only 5ft 3in anyway.

vdbfamily · 22/10/2015 19:27

my 10 year old son is 5' 2" and weighs 7 and a half stone. He is sturdy but not fat IMO.

RalphSteadmansEye · 22/10/2015 19:31

Hmm. That does sound very heavy, OP.

My 15 year old ds is 5'8" and weighs 7 st 1 lb.

5madthings · 22/10/2015 19:32

Ds3 is ten, he is five ft and weighs 5stone and 4lb. He was just weighed at school. He is slim build.

SevenSeconds · 22/10/2015 19:35

My DS is nearly 10. Last time I weighed and measured him he was 4ft 10in and 5st 3lb. He's on the skinny side but not unhealthily so.

iMatter · 22/10/2015 19:36

Just turned 11 year old ds1 is 5 stone 3 and 4 foot 10. He is very slim and very muscly (does lots of sport).

5madthings · 22/10/2015 19:38

Ds3 has been treated at hospital for an injury that required follow up and the paed said he was perfect build, children should be slim, you should be able to see collar bones, rib bones etc.

JennyFromTheNorthEast · 22/10/2015 20:16

Looking at my DS I can't see his collar bones or rib bones at all Sad

RalphSteadmansEye- I agree that he is pretty heavy, but 7 stone 1 seems a bit light for a 15 year old.

10 yo DS is 4'7" and 5st 6lb.

He's of slim build.

JennyFromTheNorthEast · 22/10/2015 20:58

What would be average height for a 10 year old ?

OP posts:
5madthings · 22/10/2015 21:03

Have you looked at the.nhs charts for children, my ds1 is one of the tallest kids in his year group buy just by a few inches so I would guess your ds is average height.

5madthings · 22/10/2015 21:03

My ds3 not ds1...

Mintyy · 22/10/2015 21:06

Sorry - but Ralph,

Your 15 year old ds is 5'8" and weighs 7st 1lb!

Are you not worried???

My 14 year old dd is 5'8" and weighs just under 9st.

lavendersun · 22/10/2015 21:06

DD here not DS but - 9, (10 in June), 4 foot 10 and 4 stone 9 last time she was weighed at the hospital. Slim and lanky (like her parents).

Look at these charts for the average boys height and weight. Bit small for my eyes and I can't enlarge it but it looks like the 50th centile is 137 ish cm and 3ish kg. About 4'7" and just under 5 stone.

Mintyy · 22/10/2015 21:08

More relevant to the op, I have an 11 year old ds who is 5ft and weighs 6 stone and a bit. Maybe 6.5 stone.

lavendersun · 22/10/2015 21:09

31 ish kg not 3! We are all different sizes and shapes though OP, that is why the chart shows centiles.

Does sound like your DS might be a bit plump though.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 22/10/2015 21:14

Dd is just 9 but is 4 ft 11 and about 4 and a half stone. She is slim but not skinny at that weight, surprisingly

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 22/10/2015 21:15

Not that relevant to OP but yes considerably lighter

Biscuitsneeded · 22/10/2015 21:16

Mine is 10.5 years old, is 4 foot 7 and weighs 4 stone 9 pounds. He isn't painfully skinny (slim and dainty rather than beanpole, stick-thin) but is just a very slight build. His father and I are both carrying a few extra pounds without being hugely overweight, so I am hoping my son's slimness is for life, although I suspect he might like to be a bit taller and more solid.

Jennyfromthenortheast, you have posted before about your son. Clearly his weight is a worry to you, so I'm not sure how knowing the heights and weights of other children is going to make any difference. What does he eat? How active is he?

KwikQ · 22/10/2015 21:17

My 10 yr old isn't average Grin.

He is 5'6, weighs 9 stone and has size 9 feet! He is in size 15-16 yr old clothes

He was very skinny until about 8 months ago but seems to have suddenly got slightly podgy. I think he is about to go through (early!) puberty, so it may be that...

Are you worried, OP? I questioned my DS's weight gain with the GP and she said he was absolutely fine, just a very big lad!

bringmelaughter · 22/10/2015 21:23

BMI calculators are designed to answer this question. The NHS one is here: www.nhs.uk/tools/documents/healthy_weight_v3/healthy_weight.html?variant=phone

Using the details you've given he is very overweight (98th percentile). There are lots of people who can support you with this. Have you spoken to your GP, health visiting team, school nurse about your concerns?

Duggee · 22/10/2015 21:24

This is for you child and says very overweight.

For the 15 year old who who you were surprised at has come out as underweight.

cedricsneer · 22/10/2015 22:09

Op, it does sound heavy, but it's hard seeing people coming on and rejoicing in how skinny their kids are without offering any constructive help (are you looking for this?) if you are worried.

For balance, my ds (will be 10 in July) is 4ft9 and 6st1.

He is on the heavy side although still within the healthy limit on the nhs kids bmi calculator. I worry about it and monitor him. I think the objective for kids is not for them to lose weight but to gain height and maintain - perhaps that should be a goal for you with your ds? It's something I am trying to do with my ds.

I am determined not to fetishise weight with him and try to get him to eat healthily and do lots of exercise without making it an issue. Lots of talk of strong, healthy bodies and no mention of fat.

My ds looks quite slim in clothes but a bit podgy without - more so than I am comfortable with.

JennyFromTheNorthEast · 22/10/2015 22:22

cedricsneer- I know that he is overweight, but I've never mentioned it to him, I just persuade him to do outdoor activities and to eat healthily. I've noticed that my DS isn't that big around the stomach (although bigger than he should be) and that he doesn't seem to be aware of any issue himself. What does worry me however, is his bottom, which is unusually big, and his face, which is very fat. I've decided that I'm not going to mention it to him unless it becomes a bigger problem.
