My DD is 6 months old and she is being plagued by thrush.
She's had several courses of both Nystatin drops (unsure of the spelling) and also Daktarin gel, both have cleared it up only for it to return a short time later.
I also treating myself be chase I'm breastfeeding so I'm using Daktarin cream on my nipples after each feed.

Today she's woken up and the inside of her cheek is covered in white and she's pulling off the breast every few seconds and crying, she's grabbing at her mouth and sucking the inside of her cheek.

Has anyone had a similar problem and can advise on how you tackled it?

I ended up expressing milk as I found it helped stop cross contamination. It does seem to take longer to clear up if your BF. Have you tried speaking to your HV about this?, maybe they could offer better advice.

Just to add that I meant expressed until both of us were clear.

Wash your bras and tops daily, soak in vinegar before washing. Keep using the cream, let as much air as possible get to your nipples.

You can be prescribed tablets for your thrush, I'd push your GP for those. Try phoning the breastfeeding network to get the name so you can ask the GP. In fact I might tell your doctor you have pain in your breasts so you think it needs more than the nipple cream just to make extra sure it can be prescribed!

Daktarin gel little and often for your baby.

As it clears then comes back that suggests you are re infecting yourselves somewhere, which is common.

Really stringent hygiene measures are key to getting rid for good. Boil wash bras, muslins, towels, bed linen and anything that comes into contact with milk. I used kitchen roll to dry my nipples when I had thrush to save in the washing.

If your expressing and using bottles and dummies it's recommended these are all replaced within your weeks as well stet

Sorry pressed send - as well as sterilising. I would also give DC a probiotic.

In teens if treatment it needs to be continued for three days after symptoms have gone (which I'm sure your doing). May be your HV can help you manage it?
