Biopsy under general anaesthetic

DS, 3.5, has been referred to the surgeons who have agreed to go ahead with a biopsy from his bowel. They've told me he will be a day patient, will need a general anaesthetic and that they don't need to make any incisions other than the actual biopsy.

Just looking for some stories/experiences of having a child put to sleep with a general. How they were before and after? Anything worth bearing in mind that I wouldn't necessarily think of?

Thanks

My ds had surgery under general.(several times when he was 3.)
I don't really have great advice for you, but try to relax yourself.

I think I was really upset myself and my ds might have picked up on that.
He cried a lot before going under, and it was heartbreaking.
Also he looked so fragile afterwards and made me even more upset.

Try and relax and don't show your worry, would be the advice I would give myself if I can go back.

Be happy and don't make it a scary experience! He will be fine.
Good luck!

My DS has had several biopsies under a GA (he had treatment for ALL). He was just 4 when they started.

He took the starving surprisingly well (except when he was on steroids!) but I won't lie - going into theatre with him was hard - however I quickly learned that he didn't really remember!

Have something light for him to have after! Remember to go to the toilet yourself. Take yourself something to do whilst you wait.

It'll be over before you know it. Good luck xxx
