My son is wonky

PlayingSolitaire · 29/09/2015 18:45

My 8 year old developed a limp at the beginning of term. It came on quite badly and he complained his thigh hurt, but the pain and the limp gradually got better over a week and half. However, he is still limping - it looks like his left leg is shorter than his right one or that he is wonky over to the left side and I have noticed his left foot is slightly turned inwards sometimes. His gait has never been the smoothest, but looks worse now (or am I paranoid and noticing it more now?)

I took him to the doctor after he had been limping for a couple of weeks and she manipulated his legs a bit but couldn't find anything wrong. She said to come back in a couple of weeks if he is still limping and he might have to have an x-Ray. She mentioned there was something that could affect short children (which my son is). The two weeks ar nearly up, so looks like I will be taking my son back to see the doctor again.

Anyone's child had a long term limp/ turned in foot? Anyone know what the doctor was talking about that affects short children and causes a limp?

I think it might still be hurting him, but he doesn't want to admit to it as he thinks that he's going to have to have his legs chopped off...

notapizzaeater · 26/10/2015 21:42

The waiting is far worse than the diagnosis :-(

PlayingSolitaire · 26/10/2015 22:01

Let's hope so notapizzaeater.

Just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and hope you get the best possible outcome.

TheAussieProject · 26/10/2015 23:49

It may well be just that. Many exams are coming back negative, which is excellent news.
We expect medicine and doctors to have answers about everything, but often the body is just mysterious. Things come and go. It is good that you are being taken very seriously and you may never know what caused this in your son for a certain amount of time, but as long as it isn't A, B, C, .... up to Z, it doesn't matter.
It's already tomorrow here in Australia, so I already started crossing my fingers for you!

ScarlettDarling · 27/10/2015 21:58

Hoping you get the good news you so desperately want x

AnyFucker · 27/10/2015 22:00

How did the CT go?

PlayingSolitaire · 29/10/2015 19:31

CT scan went well thanks, nice and quick! We saw the registrar today, still no actual news as the people at our hospital don't know what it is, so it is being sent to the specialists to look at still. It is an "unusual case". The blood test came back clear so that's good. The registrar was very positive and said that it's almost certainly nothing- just a small trauma caused by something in his PE lesson, very slim chance it could be a tumour just caught very very early. The lightly outcome is that the hospital will just want to review in a while to check its all still ok/ has got better and hasn't developed into something.

Sounding promising.

Mrsmorton · 29/10/2015 19:47

Ah all good news so far. You sound like you are being looked after by a thorough medical team? Hopefully that is some relief for you.

Haggisfish · 29/10/2015 19:55

Sounding positive and at least ds will be monitored well!

CookieDoughKid · 29/10/2015 19:59

That's really positive. I hope it's not a huge worry for you now

notapizzaeater · 29/10/2015 20:07

Sounds like they are being really thorough :-)

DriverSurpriseMe · 29/10/2015 20:15

That does sound really positive. What an ordeal you've had so far, I just can't imagine.

Really hoping for some good news soon.

DrewsWife · 29/10/2015 20:18

I have a kid with JIA juvenile idiopathic arthritis. She started with a limp. If you think they saw something on a bone it could be joint issues. Totally treatable and who knows.

Mri will show up inflammation.

mcdog · 29/10/2015 20:30

Wishing you the very best of luck. It sounds like you've really been through the mill. Are you getting support from anyone??

Cocolepew · 29/10/2015 20:38

Fingers crossed for a good result Flowers

Youarentkiddingme · 29/10/2015 20:41

Just read all this. What a traumatic couple of months Flowers

Also adding my thoughts and crossed fingers that it turns out to be nothing sinister.

PlayingSolitaire · 29/10/2015 22:04

I do feel much more positive and it is good they are being thorough and not just saying it's probably nothing so go away and stop bothering us, but actually making sure.

There was no inflammation or any other soft tissue issues on the MRI. The only thing is the slight reaction on the bone, but good thinking.

I am getting lots of real life support, thank you. I do need a name change soon as I am now totally identifiable Blush. But I'll make sure I update this thread when we know anything- firstly to thank you lot and not to leave you hanging as that's not fair on you, and secondly in case anyone comes across it in the future they can hopefully read a happy ending- unlike my google searches that only brought up bad news.

Thank you all again for your support, it was very much appreciated, especially in the darkest moments. I never thought the thread would go like this when I started it!
