So DD2 ,15 has just gone to gp after prolonged cough (3 weeks) it got worse 2 days ago and she couldn't stand up without being dizzy just walking up the corridor shed get really breathless and yesterday she was having chest pain. I haven't seen her this ill for ages. Shes in year 10 so i know she needs to be in school but its out of the question for tomorrow im hoping with Anti-bs shel fell better in couple of days but apparently its kind of contagious and she's also in a massive school (2200 pupils) So she might get tired even when she feels better should i keep her of for the week (Course of Anti-Bs or what Advice Please

I'd keep her off until she's better. Whether that's a few days or a couple of weeks.

When she feels more or less back to normal and is eating, drinking, feeling a bit more energetic. The antibiotics will help but it may be a bit longer before she's feeling well enough for school. It's less about being contagious and more about giving her the time and environment to rest and recuperate from a significant infection - ie at home.

Much better to knock it on the head good and proper with all the rest she needs than have it drag on bringing her down for weeks on end. I agree that when she is starting to feel better having some work sent home is a good idea because otherwise it can be rather a crash back into school + catch up.

I think that because antibiotics tend to be really effective, we underestimate how nasty these infections are.
