DD (11) has very itchy vulva/labia - thrush?

She is quite upset tonight as it is so itchy. I had a quick look and there is a thickish layer of white discharge and it is very red and raw down there. Anything I can do to soothe the itching so she can sleep?

Should I take her to gp tomorrow or is there something over the counter that young girls can use?

Do you have any sudocrem in the house?

Canesten for now so she can sleep, then doctor tomorrow. Could be anything... sensitivity to a new soap or washing powder, or hormonal, or jus bog standard adult vag itch. The cream will give her some temporary relief.

Poor girl, sounds like thrush, but you should take her to the doctors to be sure. My advice would be to see a nurse as in my experience they are very kind about things like thrush and more approachable than a GP. They can do an exam, take a swab and prescribe a treatment.

Meanwhile for tonight you could try a 24 hour pharmacy. Or if you have any plain natural yoghurt than can be soothing. (Obviously rinse off with lukewarm water!)

Avoid any perfumed soaps or products now and in future, as they can irritate the area and cause recurrent thrush.

Tried sudocreme but not helping. Thanks will see if I have any canesten. Wasn't sure if you could use it for children.

Canesten is really gentle (has to be really!) and is made for vaginas that are puberty age and up. Don't worry about that! Flowers

Hope DD feels better soon - vaginas? Who'd want one?
