Unexplained blister on thumb

About a week ago, DS (7) had a blister on the side of his thumb. He says he didn't burn it or rub it, and I can't think what he might have burnt or rubbed it on. After a couple of days, it popped with no interference from us and healed nicely. However, today DS said "look, my blister's coming back!" and it is... a new blister is coming up in exactly the same place. Again, I can't think of any way that he's hurt himself - he's pretty vocal about injuries! So, it's a weird one, two blisters in the same place with no apparent cause.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried? In general, he's in very good health. He has had the occasional skin condition before, eczema (though he's mostly outgrown that now), veruccas and warts and ringworm...might this be related to any of those?

Does he suck his thumb?

I would guess it's from some activitythat he does regularly, so it builds up over time... So like an adult doing gardening, you don't really notice your hands being sore until you take the gloves off 3 hours later!
Could it be from a bike or scooter? Holding scissors or a pen in a slightly awkward position?

Not a thumb sucker (thank goodness, cos I ruined my teeth sucking my thumb!) He doesn't ride his bike or scooter often enough to cause an injury I don't think. I'll watch him with pens, thanks for the suggestion!

I get little blisters on a couple of my fingers every now and then, which I think are a wart virus (I asked a doctor friend and she explained, but it was a while ago!). They always come up on the same spots. They are itchy little buggers, but they go away after a few days.

A wart can start as a blister, outside of thumb would be a common place.

does he get them anywhere else?

Nowhere else, just that one on the thumb. The 2nd one just went down by itself, without getting as big as the first. I'll watch it and see if it turns into a wart, thanks for the tip!
