What toothpaste? 4 year old daughter with 'patchy' enamel...

Hi there-

Our dentist suggested we switch to an adult toothpaste for my daughter: apparently her enamel is thin in places, naturally, and normal toothpaste designed for children won't cut it.

The problem is, she loathes the taste. Has anyone any experience of this?

TIA!

Sainsbury's value one (25p/tube so worth a punt) has a really mild flavour.

Thank you- will have a look for it. :)

Your dentist should have explained that any toothpaste with at least 1400 ppm of fluoride is what you need. ( it will tell you on the ingredient list) and is the strength of toothpaste required. Avoid whitening pastes as they are more abrasive, so if her enamel is weak it could damage it more.
I find that after a couple of weeks they get used to the taste ( well mine did). But the kids pro enamel usually is a winner with reluctant kids, and has enough fluoride.

Yes we've got a couple of different children's ones that are 1400 fluoride. I will taste in the morning and report back to you Smile I will also ask ds1 (8) and fussy about toothpaste Dd (6), which they prefer and why.

Think we've got the sensodyne children's pro enamel, Colgate acid/ sugar neutraliser (or something similar!) and aqua fresh 3-5 normal. (Did I mention the fussiness...) - also have issues with enamel.

Aquafresh is ok by my kids

All kids here are advised to use adult toothpaste

daisydalrymple · 18/09/2015 10:22

Ok ds1 doesn't like the aqua fresh 3-5, because it doesn't taste of much. Is this the one you currently use? It's def 1450 ppm as are the other two.

Ds1 really likes the Colgate maximum cavity protection for children as its 'very minty', so your dd may not like it if that's the reason she doesn't like adult ones? And he also likes the sensodyne pronamel for children as thats 'a bit minty' too.

Dd prefers aqua fresh as it isn't too strong, but says the other two are too minty. This is from a taste test this morning for you.

Thank you, daisydalrymple! Really appreciate that. Funnily enough, bough the Sensodyne Pro Enamel one over the weekend, and this morning she moaned to her dad that it was 'spicy'. Although I suspect she was just trying it on because she didn't feel like getting her teeth brushed, and he's a soft touch!

Also, thanks PullUps- I'll look for that 1400 rating if I need to go buy more... sigh.
