Getting very worried now - persistent diarrhea in nearly eight yr old son

Would love some advice please.
Getting worried.
My son doesn't eat any dairy - except for about once a month, he'll have a small pot of custard. He has never liked diary though was BF up until 9 months.
Likes his carbs. Eats an apple a day (no other fruit), a little raw veg (carrot/pepper)...
Loves his carbs - bread, plain rice
He's always been on the lean side - about 4 stone I think. Huge appetite, sleeps fine around 10.5 hours a night - seems otherwsie healthy.
But, he has persistent diarrhea - I mean, it's been going on for at least a year. Poos about twice a day, foul smelling and complains of tummy pain nearly every time.
Had a blodd test - (went horribly wrong and has now given him a real fear!) I'm not exactly sure what they tested for, but nothing came back.

I'm going back to the GP Thurs AM, would love to know what else to ask them to 'test' for, or if anyone has ever had this?!
Please help, I really don't think this is normal....
Thanks so much

The lack of calcium in his diet would explain the cramps & diarrhea.

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/09/2015 18:53

does he take a multi vitamin? cab you ask if they tested fir caeliac?

my guess would he an intolerence maybe not eating dairy is him figuring out it upsets his tummy. if dairy is a problem could well be soya is too and he's still reaching to soya.

keep a food diary.
get him.tested fir deficiencies and coeliac disease

WhatTheJeffHasGoneOnHere · 15/09/2015 15:11

Did they test for coeliac?

BarbarianMum · 15/09/2015 20:48

Could be coeliac disease, could be Crohns. Calcium is available in lots of foods besides dairy so that shouldn't be a problem.

What you need is for the doctors to investigate properly. This can take time as you work your way through the system but be persistent until you have an answer.

Don't ask for a blood test from your GP. Ask for a referral to a paediatrician. Working this out is bread and butter paediatrics. And if they want bloods doing, they'll organise the ones they want, rather than risk the GP asking for only some of them, then needing to go back in for more...

has a stool sample been tested, Do you keep a food and liquid intake log with an elimination log beside it ? has he been on antibiotics ? ha she been tested for allergies? Pursue this until you find the cause and a solution. There are specialist doctors that a pediatrician can direct you to.

read on another d thread that it was a constipated bowel with the d squeezing out around the blockage.

what is your ds drinking? could it be an overload of artificial sweetener?
