Chapped thumb from oversucking

DD is 22 months and has just developed a wee chapped thumb from sucking it so much. It's now bothering her a wee bit and so she's sucking it even more. Any suggestions on how to treat it?

I've bought some lansinoh as I know that's safe for leaving on when breastfeeding so not a problem if she swallows some but it's getting something to stay on to actually have time to work iykwim. Going to sneak in tonight after she's asleep and try and put some on so hopefully it'll have time to work on her but any suggestions for daytime? I'm wondering if a plaster would help but then there's no air getting to it so would it still stay chapped?

I'd be mean and put some stop n grow on her nail! I know she's small but you'll never break the habit otherwise (Parent of a thumb sucker here!)

If you really don't want to use chemicals, put some paw-paw ointment on her thumb...it's amazing for chapped skin. My DD had a raw upper lip and paw paw sorted it in one day!

Not quite ready for the stop and grow yet - you're right I'd feel really mean! I'm also 8 months pregnant so anything that makes my life easier for the next few months is all good as far as I'm concerned so if she's still sucking her thumb then so be it :)

Going to check out the paw paw though - sounds like it might do the trick! Thanks.

Lansinoh is great for chapped thumbs (also parent of a thumb sucker).
