Opitimal age for orthodontic treatment to start and waiting lists

My daughter is on a waiting list for NHS orthodontic treatment, it can be up to 2 years in this area. She is currently 12 so interested in what is the best age for treatment to start. Also the approximate costs if we need to pay.

TIA

Olivo they aren't much fun to begin with but the results are truly amazing. If you can get DD to put her teeth "edge to edge" so the tips of the top teeth touch the tips of the bottom ones, that's almost precisely how her profile will look within six months. So so so worthwhile.

Thanks mrsmorton's. She has slightly open bite too, and her lower jaw needs moving forward. Does that sound right? Am trying to be upbeat about it all, she has done well with impressions and things, just waiting for it now. I know it the right thing for her long term, but she is only just 9.

Thanks for all replies especially mrsmorton. My daughter has a gap in her front teeth and some that don't meet properly. She did suck her fingers so probably pushed them out of place. Will see if we have heard anything in a few months before I enquire about paying.
