I recieved a text from the next room tonight from dd saying "I took all of my medication"

She is on 20mg of fluoxetine due to severe anxiety and depression

She has actually seemed very well for at least 3 months

She says she's not sure why she did it but doesn't feel that way now

Her 'usual' self harm is cutting which she hasn't done for a while

I'm really thrown as I wouldn't consider her in a very low period as she's socialising a bit , chatting etc

Usually when she's low she locks herself away
Man anyone advise

I will be ringing her psychologist in the morning

Oh Thanks to both you and Dd
She needs to be medically checked out if she's taken even a mild overdose. More importantly she will be seen by psychiatric liaison staff. Please take her to A&E now. Brew

She's not so far from anything is she took nearly 30 tablets. She is much worse than you think. She's also capable of massive deception. Given that, if she was feeling sick or whatever, is it likely she'd tell you?

Hand the responsibility over to the doctors tonight. Instinct means nothing in these circumstances.

felttippens · 21/07/2015 00:23

She said she did it before I went away

The timeline is she was in school all week I dropped her off thurs morning she got metro home went away and auntie was here at home / she went to art gallery with boyfriend / she went to grandmas / she came with Auntie and other kids to pick us up from airport / been out for tea tonight

I can't see in that timescale where she was suicidal her pattern is to withdraw completely if she is very low

I hope you manage to speak to someone tonight, OP. If you decide not to do that now, I hope you speak to someone first thing tomorrow.

I'm off to bed now but will come on here tomorrow and will hope for some good news.

Please do call 111 for advice at least.
FYI sometimes people do 'improve' but harm themselves. Bc in the depths of depression you cba even to try to end it all. A slight increase in energy but before treatment haaca chance to work properly can be dangerous.

Damnautocorrect · 21/07/2015 03:56

When I tried to take an overdose, a sort of calm came over me as id decided what I was doing. So to the outside world I looked like I was doing great.
Do make that phone call, even if she hasn't shes testing your reaction to it and needs a bit of help at the moment.
Have you taken charge of her pills? Does it look like there's some missing? Are the other pills safe in the house?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 21/07/2015 04:27

Sometimes ADs can make you both happier and suicidal at once. 24 days worth of pills is a massive overdose, please get her checked out.

Axelposie · 21/07/2015 05:37

If you take her behaviour, her depression, the reason for an overdose, everything out of the equation, the simple fact is that your dd (may) have taken way too much of a medication. You need to speak a doctor and find out if there will be any physical consequences (which can be delayed).

You also need to find out if she still has sufficient supplies of the medication going forward.

I am very sorry that you and your dd are going through this.

ImperialBlether · 21/07/2015 09:59

I hope your daughter's alright today. It must be a terribly stressful time for you.

felttippens · 21/07/2015 23:44

Thanks everyone for the response and support - my daughter has been kept in hospital pending further tests and visit from psychiatrist

She took 750mg of fluoxetine

I've nothing to say but to send virtual support. I do hope your daughter is all right and that you are coping all right, too.

ImperialBlether · 22/07/2015 21:45

I'm so glad she's safe. What a terrible worry for you and your family. I hope she can get the treatment she needs and will be home with you soon.

So sorry to hear this, but I think it's a good thing she reached out and told you. Hope she's getting the help she needs in hospital and beats this Flowers.
