Tips on getting nasty medicine down needed....

DD has penicillin for Scarlet fever.
it tastes like acid and is not going down well.
Any tips? (Apart from sitting on her, already tried that)

How old is she?

oops, she is 2

Age? Over 12mths and up to six (possibly older but that is the age of DC1 so I know I can still manage it - just) is to lie them down on their back, kneel over them with one of your legs either side, pinning their arm to their side, one hand holding medicine (syringe better than spoon), other hand squeezing their mouth open and then immediately holding it shut.
I always feel really horrible recommending this method but it is the only one which has worked for us. We have been lucky in that, after 2 or 3 doses administered in that fashion, the DC have accepted that they have to take the medicine and have taken it normally provided that they are already holding the sweet or smartie or whatever bribe we have come up with.

Agree syringe much better. Penicillin is truly vile stuff!
I would wrap child in large towel/blanket to ensure arms aren't flailing etc.... Then put across knee, head tilted back. Syringe along side of cheek to back of mouth. Personally I stick my finger behind teeth at gum line (if that makes sense) and keep mouth open as then the have to swallow and can't spit it out. Then have something sweet to give ASAP.
It's grim, but has to be done!

Could you stir it in to fromage frais

Similar to others, tried to time it to when we were both home, one gently but firmly pinned arms, quick squirt to the back of the mouth and gently, but firmly held mouth shut until swallowed. Hated it, but with DD's asthma some of the chest infections she had could have killed her and once it was clear she couldn't be cajoled, or bribed or fooled by mixing it into something we had to be no nonsense.

I used to mix foul tasting stuff with jam. Kept a jar of seedless strawberry jam specially

Suck up medicine into syringe. Wipe excess off syringe. Dip syringe into yogurt or something equally tasty. Put nice tasting syringe into mouth and fire it in.

Or. If you're giving nice tasting Calpol etc at the same time, put the nasty tasting medicine in the syringe first, wipe, then top up with the nice stuff.

if they've got medicine in mouth but are refusing to swallow, tickle gently under their chin and it seems to make them swallow (tip off vet for the cats ) we find it works with dcs too. Or the promise of something nice to take the taste away straight after eg chocolate raspberries
