Hi guys, i'm new here and would like some advice or see if any of you have gone through this, My 3 year old ha had pains in her legs for the last few months to the point now when they happen she cannot walk, I Took her to the doctors and he said She's being lazy not wanting to walk felt her legs everything fine, Even tho I explained she's not a lazy child and she is actually crying in pain.

A week later she's up for the night crying and in agony took her to the doctors following morning and explained to a different doctor and he has sent a referral to the hosp, but no blood tests or anything being sent for

At first I thought they were simply growing pains but they seem to be getting worse has anyone had any similar experiences ?

Thanks

Another thought to throw into the hat is irritable hip syndrome (also known as transient synovitis). Inability to walk caused by inflammation of the hip joint following illness. The pain is actually in the hip but appears to be in the leg and knee.

ToffeeWhirl · 18/06/2015 17:28

My DS had that when he was a toddler, bert. I wonder if he's still suffering from it intermittently Confused.

Thanks for the explanation, Polter. For some reason, I could never get my head round it. Have always wondered why it's bad to be hypermobile, but now I get it.

minkGrundy · 18/06/2015 17:32

I think transient sinovitus is what dd gets when she has a cold.

Just been reading about hypermobility and links to other conditions. I am hypermobile in my fingers, wrists, elbows, hips and knees. I bruise extremely easily. I also have anxiety and episodes of fainting when I stand up. It never occurred to me they were all related. Weirdly though it is episodic to some extent. The hypermobility is always there but the bruising/fainting etc. comes and goes. (Hormonal I think)

With juvenile arthritis it's lifelong arthritis basically managed with drugs, painkillers, physio I believe.

Another with a child with HS.

Get it checked though, to be sure.

j22xx · 18/06/2015 22:33

Thank you all, going to give it another week to see if the referral letter comes through if not were going back to the doctors to demand more tests, thank you all very much for all your help xx

Having done a bit of reading on HS, so many things have just clicked into place. Physios etc. Have commented that I am hypermobile before but I didn't realise it was a thing. I just thought they meant 'you're bendy'. As i was a gymnast when I was younger, bendy is a good thing.

But now I see lots of things are related, the exertion migraines, clicky joints, jaw locking, anxiety, fainting, bruising, bursitis, poor joint stabilisation, constantly going over my ankles as a child (especially when tired) collapsed arches, CFS etc.

Thankfully, a lot of these things no longer happen, maybe as I have got older hormone levels have dropped as they are often period related. Although the migraines are worse now than before.

Finding this thread has helped make sense of a lot of thingsThanks and now I know what things to watch out with the kids.

There are no such things as growing pains in a 3 year old, as I discovered to my cost when my son had leg pain at that age and that's what we put it down to. It turned out he was not at all well.

It is almost certainly something not serious. There are many explanations, but if your child cannot bear to walk, it needs to be investigated.

Trazzletoes · 20/06/2015 09:35

Re the bruises on her legs - really it's bruises in an unexpected place you need to watch out for: torso, eyes etc. and bruises that don't go. For weeks.

Lovepancakes · 25/06/2015 14:47

Trazzletoes do you mind my asking what your son had and I'm so sorry he wasn't well at that age. I wonder if it was leukaemia

I just told our GP DS (aged 3) has been mentioning pain in his legs for months as I hadn't realised wouldn't be growing pains at this age. And also pointed out that he's always, always bruised (sometimes on his torso when I could sometimes swear he hadn't bumped himself there, he's at home full time).

He looks really well and bubbly and the GP said it could be some viral thing in his joints (seems to be his knees that hurt) and to come back if he's still mentioning it as much in 3 months and give him calpol when it's sore.
I like to listen to our GP but the thing is he's been mentioning pain for at least 6 months- a year so it doesn't feel like waiting 3 months will help.

LondonRocks · 25/06/2015 21:44

Trazzle, get a referral to a paediatrician. Hope he's ok.

LondonRocks · 25/06/2015 21:45

Sorry, I meant Love.

j22xx · 26/06/2015 11:38

j22xx · 28/07/2015 12:19

Hi guys just an update on her legs

Weve had a few painful weeks which has meant me going back to the doctors about it and he has phoned hospital to speed up her referral and has asked for a ultrasound of her legs hips and knees along with blood tests.

Hopefully will get some answers soon!!
