My dd has been sucking her thumb since a baby. each visit to the dentist it is noted that her front teeth are protruding and now her permanent teeth are coming in and the bottom teeth are more backwards - can foresee a large overbite in the future - how to break the habit?

"Put some quinine on her thumb. She'll stop soon enough" (Gone With The Wind Wisdom...)

What about bribery?

50p for every day she doesnt suck her thumb?

Distract her when she's doing it, with a game or task that requires the use of both hands. Do not mention or focus on the thumb sucking as you risk making it a lot worse/more entrenched. It will pass On its own.

She's old enough to understand the consequences. I wouldn't go down the bribing route. Straight teeth should be reward enough!

a 6yo, care about straight teeth, are you joking??!! It's the wonky age for teeth, too.

I dunno what you do, OP, I happen to think my 7yo has a worse comfort habit, so that's the only solace I can offer.

Nail biting solution on her thumb?

No idea. I've still not cracked t with 8yo ds. He has cut back a bit, it's more of a tiredness / quiet time habit but he can talk beautifully with it in so other incidents slip unmentioned.

Bribery, yucky solutions and warnings of wonky teeth and a brace haven't helped.
