Heart mummer

Just been to hospital for my 8 year old son to have some allergy testing and a heart mummer has been detected. ECG ordered straight away along with BP and sats. Results all have come back normal. Level 1 to 2 level of noise. Would you have more tests done? Anyone any experience of this. Dr said the cardiologist probay won't do anything furher. And probably a begnin mummer.

I would want him referred to the cardiologist and have an appointment so that you can discuss it with him and he can be reviewed/monitored at intervals even if it isn't worrying.

Most murmurs are just normal noisy hearts. In places with easy access to a paeds cardiologist, often they get them reviewed by them to decide if just normal noisy heart (also known as innocent murmur, or benign murmur). Where I live, we're a long way from the cardiologist, so we get an echo scan done instead, the vast majority of which are completely normal. And if all they have is a normal noisy heart, then they don't need any monitoring after that, because they're normal. If the cardiologist and/or echo pick up anything else, then they can explain if any more monitoring is needed (some of the things you can see on scan don't actually need following up unless situation changes...for instance one problem only tends to need a recheck if they take up deep sea diving!)
