toddler weight worries

Can anyone offer any advice?

I have a 2 and half year old little girl and am getting a bit concerned about her weight.

I've calculated her bmi and she is at the top end of healthy (but has occasionally drifted into overweight). She was a small newborn but took to weaning with gusto and piled weight on.

She hasn't yet had a toddler fussy phase with food and will eat anything. Obviously ive cut out junk ie choc, crisps etc and have been watching portion sizes etc.

So as not to drip feed ill give you details or her weight and diet:

2 stone 4lbs
92 cm tall

Breakfast: normally 1 slice of toast or toddler size bowl of ready brek with banana and a cup of milk (semi skimmed)

Snack: pear/rasberries/apple or a petit filous yogurt

Lunch: small sandwich with tuna or ham (or left overs from previous nights meal)Some grapes or a rice cake

Snack: yogurt/rice cake/fruit (only if she asks)

Dinner: cottage pie with veg/ pasta with hidden veg etc

Through the day she drinks weak squash and has another cup of milk before bed.

Shes also pretty active- we do one set activity a day ie gym, dance, softplay or park.

She does get treats from grandparents but only once a week or so.

Do i need to worry or should i be changing portion sizes etc?

Hey I wouldn't worry about her weight my daughter is 2 and half and the health visitor said she was over weight. She never eats before 12 have tried everything to get her to but as soon as 12 comes she can't stop eating she had juice during the day and milk for bed had her lunch so a sandwich or soup and a yoghurt snack at about 3 then her tea at tea time which can be a big size plate and then ice cream for afters. I wouldn't worry about her weight as long as she's happy and eating don't worry

From what you say in your OP I don't think you need to worry. You are right to ditch the junk and I would also ditch the petit filous and give some cheese cubes or cucumber/carrot sticks with a hummus dip instead. It sounds like you are being quite active too. It's good that you are aware of a potential problem so that you can keep an eye on things but it sounds to me as if you are doing everything right.

My DD is 2.3 and is both heavier and taller than your DD, OP.
HV wasn't worried at all. She is very 'solid' and doesn't look chubby at all. She eats very well but runs around lots and burns a lot of energy. She has a little friend who is even bigger than her. She doesn't seem fat either.
