Blisters on DS(9months) thumbs?

Hobby2014 · 15/05/2015 16:45

He has two blisters (they look like they are fluid filled) on each thumb. He doesn't suck his thumbs but does put his fingers in his mouth.

I thought it could be hand/food&mouth but he doesn't have any around his mouth, or on his feet - but haven't managed to look inside his mouth yet. His cheeks are red but just looks like teething.

Any ideas?

What shape are they? HFM blisters are usually shaped like a rugby ball. You don't have to get them on the hands, feet and mouth, it's only called that because you mostly see them there. DS had them on his feet and bottom when he had it.

Meant to say that originally I thought it was eczema as he does suffer slightly with it on his chest and legs, but this looks sore, whereas the other dry skin doesn't. Then I noticed they were blisters. I have eczema and have never had it blister.

Thanks for replying.
They're all different. One is round, one rectangular, one is oval and the other is like a crescent. I did Google photos earlier but it didn't look the same. Will have another look.

Pompholyx eczema looks like little blisters and is commonly found on the fingers and thumbs.

Grantaire · 15/05/2015 16:53

Pompholyx is also much more common in late spring, early summer. I only get it in May/June.

Hobby2014 · 15/05/2015 16:55

Thanks, I will google that now too.
These are the best photos I could get of him, they don't look blistered in them but they are.

The trouble with google images is that half of the pictures aren't actually what you searched for and you only tend to find really severe cases. My dc's HFM looked v little like most google pictures.

Have you got a pharmacist nearby? They are really good at this sort of thing.

Grantaire · 15/05/2015 16:58

That looks like HFM to me. See if you can have a look in his mouth.

Hobby2014 · 15/05/2015 16:58

I was just going to say that google images are all severe and he's not so it's really hard to tell.
I've got a boots that has s chemist but won't make it in time before it closes so might try tomorrow morning.
They don't seem to be bothering him.

I've just had a look and can't see anything on tongue or roof of mouth but can't see the sides very well.

My son had HFM and he didn't have any sores inside his mouth, just around it like chapped lips, and red blotchy bits all over his torso. We only knew it was HFM when his hands and feet peeled like sunburn and the pharmacist said that's what happens. I would see the GP or pharmacist over the weekend.
