Molludab - for molluscum

Hi
My Daughter (8 yrs) has molluscum on her legs and under her arms. We've been using Molludab on them for about a month and most of the bumps have reddened and dried up now. Some new ones have appeared during this time but seem to be responding to the Molludab.

A couple of questions:

  • does Molludab only deal with the virus at the point of application or does it kick start the body's immune system to deal with the molluscum everywhere, that way hopefully stopping new clusters from popping up around the body?
  • also, can use you it on the face? She has a few tiny clear bumps on her face which don't yet look like the ones on her legs or body but I guess could be the very early stages of molluscum. I don't want to treat them with this chemical as I'm not totally sure if they're the same thing, but if they get any bigger then I expect they are molluscum and I'd like to zap them asap.

Advice much appreciated
Thanks

Hi. I've used Molludab on one spot on my son's face. But it was high up on his forehead so not delicate skin. It seemed to make the molloscum turn into a tiny scab, as if I'd popped it. Is that what happens?

The rest on his body are still there. But we've only been using it a few days. How long did you apply it before they disappeared? And what happened? Did they scan over? Is that what you mean by drying up?

Thank you!

Most of the spots looked scabbed over today...is this the start of the end?

My 2.5 yr old has MC and want to try this - does it dying when applied?

Milkwagon · 15/05/2015 08:57

*sting - not 'dying'!

WildStyle · 15/05/2015 10:38

Yes, we found it did sting a bit on application. But my 2.11 year old was easily bribed with chocolate.

Yes, DD said it stung on some of the bumps. We've treated about 50 - 60 bumps so far. Some stung quite a bit for a few minutes but a lot of them didn't sting at all. She is older so cooperates and wants to get rid of them, I'm not sure how this would work with a younger child though, she has to keep really still so that only a tiny bit of Molludab is applied to the bump.

The ones that have been treated with the Molludab have all turned red and either faded away or scabbed over and are starting to heal. However, new ones are still appearing. We're about 5 weeks in to the treatment process now. It's truly horrible as the bumps are unslightly and DD is in junior school so is very self conscious.

This is totally unorthodox, but I squeezed some of DD's to get the core out and then put rubbing alcohol on them to dry them up. After I did a few of them, the others went away, so not sure if I kickstarted the immune system by squeezing out the cores. If you have a child who will let you, it might be worth a try.

Hi springboks, that's strange that more are reappearing.... Are you changing towels, bedding a clothing frequently? I'm only using DS's towel once and then washing at 90C. His clothes and PJs once and then a normal wash. I don't know if more are reappearing yet, as we are only 3 days into treatment.

Most of the ones he has have scabbed over so I'm not treating with molludab. Two or three are red around the spot, so I think again I don't treat. There are 1 or two that are very tiny which I think are molloscum but can't be sure and are too small to treat.

I'll keep updating.

Hi,
Yes I'm changing her clothes, pjs, towels and bedding every day. I had been washing them all at 60 degrees but maybe that's not hot enough. To be honest her legs and body are responding really well to the treatment and many of the scabs are falling off. It's the face that's the biggest concern now.

Hi. Well DS's arm is looking really good with most spots scanning up/drying up. But he's getting more on his tummy...! So I don't know how's they've spread! As I thought it was the centre "pearl" that was the infectious part, and the spots have dried up before that point. So I'm not sure. I will keep updating.

My other son now has a single spot on his tummy. So I hope he hasn't caught it! He had this a few years ago but I didn't do anything as he had less than 10 and they just disappeared after a few months. So hopefully he's immune and the spot n his tummy is nothing...! Either than or 3 years ago, the spots he had were molloscum...

I really feel for your DD, as she's older and so self aware. Did you try the Molludab on her face? The single spot DS had (on his forehead near his scalp, so not delicate skin) has responded well and the scab has now fallen off.

Good luck

When my DS had this it didn't go until it had moved around each part of his body in sections, it was most bizarre. Once it had reached the last bit of his body it cleared up.

Don't get too excited MN it isn't a miracle cure. It's not really evidence backed at all

Molludab worked well on DS Molluscum. His was all over his legs and lower torso.
It did sting on application and the bleeding scabs were gruesome.
DS was rid of his in around 6 weeks but does still have several inflamation marks.
