As per title really. There was an outbreak at pre school last week, and this is now on DS's shoulder. Only the one spot though. Ia it likely to be chicken pox?

It looks like it to me. Especially if there's been an outbreak at school. My eldest dd had 1 spot for a couple of days then it started to blister then the next morning she had a few dozen.

CP usually takes a minimum of 14 days to appear, so it may be a bit soon.

Just noticed all the typos Blush

Think he was exposed last Monday, so 9 days ago. NHS says it can develop as little as 7 days after exposure. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks all.

Poor thing only started pre school last Monday as well!

Could be.
could be an insect bite. If it is an insect bit you can normally see a puncture wound in the centre.

If it is chicken pox he is lilely to have more spots appear over the next few hours.

IWantToMakePeppaBacon · 22/04/2015 10:57

Doesn't look like a bite. It has a head on it. He's had this one spot since last night, but no more yet.

Yes, it looks right.

I only had 3 spots when I had CP as a child.

Does he feel unwell? Slightly loose bowels maybe? Not that that is necessary either, but it might be another indication.

IWantToMakePeppaBacon · 22/04/2015 11:08

He's slightly warm, but acting his usual self currently.

He did spike a 39.5 degree temperature on both Friday and Saturday night, with no apparent cause. I would have thought that would be too soon to be CP though?

I think you have the temperature first and then the spots come out.

My children's spots were far more blister-like and bigger. Your photo looks like a little pimple to me.
All you can do is keep checking.

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/04/2015 11:44

The temperature can come after the spots ime.

Of my 4 children, all of whom have had CP, 2 seemed completely well throughout, one spent an afternoon after the spots had come out on the sofa with a temperature, and the other had loose bowels and felt a bit under the weather the day before any spots appeared.

All you can do is wait and see if any more appear. I would keep him quarantined for now, just in case.

Thanks all. He's not due in pre school until tomorrow morning, so hopefully it will be a bit clearer by then! We'll have a day at home today. Smile
