Filling on a 7yr old

My daughter needs a filling in a baby molar. The dentist has told me an injection is needed to do this as this tooth is not due to fall out for approx 3 years.

Im very worried about this, I dont want her to have a bad experience and feel pain and end up terrified of the dentist at a very young age. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Oh dear - poor girl. Lucky I needed a filling fixed when ds was little and he was engrossed.

When he needed a tooth out and had a jab, I kept chattering to him, explaining what was going on, and asking him to wiggle his toes when he felt a jab (old therapist truck).

Dentists are a hell of a lot better these days with kids and nervous patients.

Not being funny Nick, but if you don't want your DCs to feel the pain of having fillings, you need to be sure they are cleaning their teeth properly, twice a day without fail.

The injection will hurt a bit, but the filling should be painless, though uncomfortable. It's a lot less painful that toothache though.

Its not always down to not brushing ypur teeth properly or scoffing sweets , so a bit harsh there!

I lived on sweets as a child but have very few fillings. My teeth are like cement, but a friend has a horrible problem with her teeth where the enamel is like chalk and her teeth were rotting away until she bad them all chipped away and re-enamelled.

My 7 year old DD had a filling before Christmas and I was appalled. This is a child that rarely eats sweets and dislikes juice. Fizzy, sugary drinks are a rare treat in a restaurant.

It turned out that it was to do with the morphology of her teeth - she has deep ridges on the molars so food 'hides' there and I now have to be really thorough in the brushing of these teeth.

The filling was really easy for her if somewhat uncomfortable for her keeping her mouth open.

Please feel free to PM me if I can help you further.

Tyw you've got a bloody cheek! You know NOTHING about this child- how the bloody hell would you know how good her dental hygiene is??!! Some kids have fillings- even those who brush teeth 3 times a day and only ever drink water. Don't be so sodding judgmental! OP- it will be fine- they can do the injection slowly and carefully

I think they use a numbing gel these day before a jab.
