Croup in newborns, should I try and get an ooh appointment?

We have 5wo twins both of whom have developed little barking coughs, a bit snotty. Not struggling to breathe but not feeding as well as normal. They don't seem overly ill just a bit sleepy/ coughing. Guidance seems a bit vague online but I think they should be examined. Do you think it warrants an ooh? Or wait till Monday?

Please get these babies seen tonight.
Things can change rapidly

Is it really that bad? Neither of the elder two ever had a croup, I only think it's croup because I googled barking cough.

Croup is usually worse at night, they will probably be given an oral steroid. The illness is usually short lived over a few days. If they are not feeding well may be worth getting them seen.

Given their ages I would get them checked out tonight.

HemanOrSheRa · 18/04/2015 22:24

Yes! DS had croup. They heard him over the phone when I was ringing the OOH service for advice. They told me to bring him straight in.

Yep get them seen tonight. Croup can worsen so quickly and at 5 weeks they're teeny so don't take any chances.

My dd has had croup a lot, it's a very distinctive sound - like a seAl 'barking'.

gamerchick · 18/04/2015 23:34

Normally with croup I just say do the steam thing but they are so young and have weeny lungs I agree with taking them in. They're too little to take chances.

westcountrywoman · 18/04/2015 23:35

Definitely worth getting checked by a Dr given they're so young. Croup is often harmless but I wouldn't take any chances with a newborn.

Nanny13 · 18/04/2015 23:41

Any news?

britishbakeoffblues · 18/04/2015 23:50

Tiny babies don't get croup.
Take them to see a Dr please.

Graciescotland · 19/04/2015 21:57

I did take them to the ooh doctor and she felt it was just a cold with a dry cough. Pulse/ temperature/oxygen saturation all fine so we're home for the moment however because they are so young/ small we might admit them just for monitoring/ feeding. Going to have them weighed/ rechecked at GP's tomorrow and see how we feel they are doing.
