Molluscum Contagiosum

Just been told 2 yo DS has this. They affect his neck, up to his jawline. The practice nurse said they're not contagious, will take weeks/months/years to go and that there is no treatment. She printed up an info booklet for me to read and now I'm confused as it says it IS contagious! DS may have picked it up from infected toys at nursery/playgroup, but most people have natural immunity to the virus and don't pick it up, which could explain why rest.of the family haven't got it.

Can anyone she'd more light on this for me please? Am feeling very confused (and worried!)

I tried molludab from amazon, it was safe I'm sure but it didn't work. My ds had them for almost a year and it was so upsetting and frustrating to watch them spread, spread, spread whilst doctors just shrugged and said it will go maybe in about two years!
What worked for us was I noticed when he had chicken pox and I put handfuls of bicarbonate of soda in the bath they started to dry up and I had heard of someone using Fuciden cream from GP on infected one.
I managed to get some cause he had a couple of angry inflamed ones (gp's don't seem keen to give it out even though it is a cream for skin infections). It has cleared it up, it started to work within days. It dries them up, they stop breaking and spreading and then no new ones arrive so you stop the cycle. He has some dints now where they were but they are gone. Could be coincidence that they were going to go then anyway but I very much doubt it.
Go to GP and get Fuciden cream. Good luck.

somebodystole, i squeezed my dd's and they too clear up as the immune response was triggered. you have to get the 'core' out of them and we used gloves to prevent it spreading as the core is the infectious bit. then used plasters til they were dried out. it did hurt but dd was 9 and wanted me to do it. and they were only on her legs.

Tiny dailydab of tea tree oil on each one with a cotton bud. Works a treat (and isn't £25).

My DC had MC on his bum. What worked for me was the old idea of provoking an immune response.

The problem with MC is that the body isn't aware of the spots so does nothing to fight them. For a period of a couple of weeks I would burst the biggest spot (using sterilised needle so not sore or traumatic to the surrounding skin). The contents of the spot are REALLY contagious so I cleaned it meticulously and then treated with tea tree cream.
I did this while he was sleeping so he wasn't bothered.
The speed with which they disappeared after this was amazing!

Note: this is purely my experience, I'm not claiming this is the best way to treat them.

My DD had this a couple of years ago all down one side of her body and I brought a few 'miracle cures', none of which worked. The GP just kept saying they'd go of their own accord. However, she then developed some excema like patches near some of the spots so she was prescribed Fucudin H for those, which also cleared up all of the MC spots within a couple of weeks. As ever, who knows if they were on their way out anyway, but it was pretty amazing...

So there's lots of different remedies to try! They are spreading down his chest, back and arms now so am prepared to try anything.

I squeezed two on his chest to invoke the immune response. He thought I was killing him, he screamed and screamed, so I only did two and put plasters on them. It's not like squeezing a spot, they're harder and to get the centre out you have to pinch, no wonder it hurt him Sad As I have read everywhere though, squeezing can lead to scarring, and because it caused LO pain I probably won't try that again.

This morning I put molludab on all the other ones. It must sting because he cried for a few minutes, then stopped and carried on playing. I'm hoping this will work and be the end. Will keep posting xx

Fingers crossed for you Mrs.

DD had to wear leggings under all her skirts last summer as they were so bad on her legs. DD wouldn't let me anywhere near them to squeeze them and she had them for over a year and only seemed to be getting worse plus DS had just them from her so I felt I didn't have much else to try.

I think it does sting for them but it is short lived, bribery worked for me.

Good luck!
