There is a small cloudy blob of gunk in DDs eye. it is just on the edge of the iris and there are lots of red lines (assuming blood vessels) going to it from the inner corner of her eye.

its been there for at least 3 days and washing the eye hasnt moved it. she seems otherwise well so i am debating whether to leave it, call GP on Monday, or go to A&E today.

DH is away for 10 days so I'm on my own just now and would appreciate some advice if you've seen anything like this before! thanks x

I've no experience I'm afraid but do you have a walk in clinic you could go to ? Or call 111 for advice ?

Corster7 · 18/04/2015 10:28

As pp has said phone 111, I would never chance eyes tbh and would get it looked at asap.

BinToHellAndBack · 18/04/2015 10:33

111 will say get it checked out so I'd just do that straight away - it's a baby's eye so nobody will grumble in A&E even if it turns out to be nothing.

thanks everyone. 111 online symptom checker says go to A&E but I hate wasting NHS time and don't want to be laughed at for overreaction with pfb Smile

This is your babies eye.

Take your child to A&E!!!!!!!!!!

felkov · 18/04/2015 14:04

I don't want to end up stuck in A&E for hours though, NHS is busy enough as it is! she is totally well otherwise and it doesn't seem to be bothering her. it just looks wrong to me. but then eyes are pretty essential and i feel a fool for not knowing what to do. my mum thinks to leave it, but she says that for everything and was anti vaccination until my brother became deaf from mumps so not sure her judgement is any good either Confused

Is there a pharmacy open near you? If there is take her there.
I do know what you mean I hate wasting hospitals time.
And it is hard to decide what is urgent and what isn't.
Although I think in this case I would Deffo take my baby to out of hours at least.
If the pharmacy is not happy with it being left (and prob won't be) then you will feel safe in the knowledge that you were told to get her looked at.

3littlefrogs · 18/04/2015 14:40

Have you got a local optician?
They re the experts on eyes and would be able to tell you if you need to go to A&E or walk in. They have all the eye exam kit there too.

TenerifeSea · 18/04/2015 15:06

I wouldn't mess around with an eye, she needs to be seen.

Harbourgirl · 18/04/2015 15:14

Why, if it has been there for three days, are you suddenly considering A&E?
I'd start off by going to the pharmacy &, depending on what they say, go to minor injuries.

FannyFifer · 18/04/2015 15:26

Go to optician, they will have a look for you & can refer if needed.

felkov · 20/04/2015 09:46

thanks for all the comments. the optician told me to go to her GP. 111 and the out of hours GP gave me some advice over the phone that its probably something called a pinguecula or a pterygia and also said it should be looked at by her GP. so I've just got to wait a week for her GP appointment now. she still seems totally well thankfully so hopefully its nothing to worry about.

Hi - I know it’s been a while since you posted I’m just wondering how you got on with this? I’ve just noticed something in my 8 month olds eye that I’m also certain is a pterygia
