DS has woken today with diaorhea. He's got a temp & been sick once. He's been in bed all day & very sleepy. I've been to the hotel pharmacy & they recommended Diax (nifuroxazide) & flagyl (metronidazole) which I've started him on but he's now saying it hurts to breathe. He's not wheezy & doesn't have a rash. It's night time here & I'm not sure what I should be looking out for. Please does anyone have any advice.

When I was ill in Egypt the hotel sent for an excellent doctor. I'd be calling reception and asking them to arrange for one.

I agree with Thumbcat. Call reception and ask for a doctor.

Hi frozen.

Where in Egypt are you?

Doctors work evenings here, though not always weekends so try to get him seen tonight.

If you are in Sharm, Sharm EL Sheikh International Hospital is good. All hospitals here have outpatient clinics which are open til at least 10 or 11pm.

If you are in Cairo there are plenty of good hospitals which the hotel can refer you to.

I am not sure about Hurghada but again, the hotel would know. There are also plenty of 24hour pharmacies and no prescriptions are required for medicines so don't worry about being caught short.

Please PM me if you need any more info.

Unless the clinic or hospital is really overpriced I wouldn't expect to pay more than 200 to 300 Egyptian pounds for a consultation. Medicines are also cheap and the prices are written on the box.

Most doctors here treat quite aggressively because of more varied emergency care and harsher bugs so don't be alarmed if the doc prescribes a long list of medicines. You can just give your DS what you feel comfortable with.

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful. My internet connection cut out so I've only just managed to read them. We are in Hurgardah. That's very useful to know that the hotel should get a doctor to us if needed. The hotel clinic is open daily until 8.30pm & as my DS is now sleeping soundly & breathing easily I hope we can wait until the morning to see a Doctor. I'm feeling rather guilty that we just went to the pharmacy rather than the doctors today. Having a poorly child in a foreign country is rather worrying.

Hope your DS feels better soon frozen. It must be worrying, but there are good medical facilities in hurghada so don't worry.

Tomorrow is Friday so you might not find things open first thing in the morning but things should be open after prayers. Most clinics close on Fridays but it sounds like the hotel clinic will be open.

Enjoy the rest of your trip! I am very jealous stuck here in Cairo. Smile
