Very, very dry hair

I wonder if anyone knows the causes of this, please.

DD, 7, has very dry, straw-like hair, and always has. I've started giving her an iron supplement which has some positive effect, but it's still very dry. It's washed and conditioned twice a week (baby shampoo).

Any thoughts, please?

Thank you.

Btw, I never blow-dry it. It's been like this since toddler-hood.

Maybe try an adult moisturising shampoo/conditioner

OopTheShard · 16/04/2015 09:04

Is her hair curly?

Laquila · 16/04/2015 09:05

Maybe look up co-washing (washing with conditioner only) and give that a go? Baby shampoos can be surprisingly drying, given that they're meant to be so mild. FWIW, I wouldn't use Johnsons baby stuff on me, let alone my baby!

I think fish oil is mean to be halo full for hair and skin, but bo idea whether you can give that to kids. Does she eat any oily fish? Maybe worthy speaking to the pharmacist?

DD1'S hair used to be like this until I started to use aussie miracle moist shampoo and condition and once a week (twice the first 2 weeks) I use aussie 3 minute miracle reconstructer deep conditioner.

And her hair has never been this soft or shiny it really is a miracle Grin

hi, have you tried coconut oil on it? I am treating my ds's very dry scalp with coconut oil and it has really helped. I think it is much better than the medicated shampoo the doctor prescribed. I am not sure what could cause dry hair. I think my ds's hair is dry as well as his skin and sometimes eyes. For his skin and eyes it is linked to heat and lack of fluids. I have never thought about his hair before as it is very short. I am trying ds on an iron supplement too.

Agree about the Aussie shampoo and conditioners, my hair is looking so much better since using them Smile

littleflick · 16/04/2015 10:03

Thanks all. I won't use Aussie products as they're tested on animals, but I'll try some other brands. Coconut oil is a (gorgeous-smelling!) great idea, thanks.

No, her hair is quite straight.

Herbal essences hello hydration is another good one. Don't know about the testing sorry

Seriouslyffs · 16/04/2015 11:41

What's her diet like OP?
I'd go down that route first.

littleflick · 16/04/2015 11:55

Herbal Essences also tested on animals. :-(

Her diet is varied and full of fruit and veg. I'm wondering if she should have more oil and iron though.

Naked are good, especially the intensive shampoo and conditioner.

Also child's farm.

Oil, iron and protein. Maybe a vitamin supplement and fish oil tablets?
