Toddler cut on chin

Ds (16 mo) has a cut at the top of his chin, nr his mouth. Because he's still in the dribbling and messy drinking/eating phase the cut is occasionally getting dirty and a bit pussy. Am keeping it clean with cooled boiled water but not sure if I should also apply a thin layer of sudacrem/savlon or if it's better to try and dry it out as much as poss? Thanks

I would apply a layer of something myself. Just like nappy rash...it will protect it. Other option is a dressing but that won't encourage it to dry out....what about feeding him yourself whilst it's sore? And regular dabbing of drool through the day with a clean dry cloth?

Thanks mrs. Will do that, although unfortunately ds would have a fit if I fed him! Was thinking perhaps putting something on to cover the area during feeding to try and minimise food going in...maybe a plaster put on very lightly so it wouldn't hurt when removed

Actually, a wound heals better when moist. Leaving it to dry it a very diffuse belief which isn't true.
Just put some vaseline on it. A gentle paper plaster or tape at meals time will do, so not so much food will irritate the new skin.

Try, Mohulin Codliver oil cream from Boots. Comes in a tube and is excellent.
It's much better than ordinary codliver oil cream.
It really helps healing.

Thanks so much, very helpful. It's definitely looking a bit better today although I think ds now has conjunctivitis. Gah!
