Ingrown toenail

My DD1 aged 10 has a badly ingrown big toe nail. I have had the same problem for years but I can sort it out myself. I was successfully looking after hers too until recently but she's started having a go at it herself and it's now become infected. It's too sore for me to do anything. She won't stop picking at it and it's getting worse.

I'm not sure whether I need to bring her to the doctor and get a referral to get the toe operated on or take her to a chiropodist and just try to manage it from there.

Does any one have any advice for me please?

If it's infected I don't think the chiropodist will touch it until your DD has seen a doctor, as it will possibly need antibiotics.

Make sure she doesn't mess about with it anymore until it's been treated.

What does partial removal involve?

Ds2 (17) needed antibiotics from the GP and was referred for partial nail removal. He had it done at the clinic with a local anaesthetic and had to dress it twice a day for about 10 days. It healed really well and he said it was less sore immediately afterwards than it was when infected.
