Just heard my cousins 5 year old has to have 11 teeth out so that his 2nd teeth can come through healthy.
Anyone experienced this in a young child? How will he eat etc and when will his other teeth come through?
Just been told by cousins Mum so don't have all details yet, his mum is too upset. He will have a general in a good childrens hospital

My niece had to have four or five teeth out, including her 2 top front teeth, just before her 3rd birthday. She has crappy enamel on her teeth hence although she doesn't have much in the way of sweet food or drinks, her teeth were pretty bad. They felt it would be less upsetting to just have them pulled rather than doing fillings. She does eat raisins quite a lot and the dentist said they were particularly bad due to how they squish right into the crevices of the teeth.
Anyway, she had the operation under a general too and had no problems with it at all. Mum was really upset though as you can imagine. She sometimes struggles eating really hard food like carrot sticks but basically these are easily avoidable, and is fine.

I had 4 - 6 teeth out under sedation when I was little OP. All I remember is the very weird dreams I had when I conked out (can still remember them to this day!). Then I was fascinated by the 'gaps'.

Mine had to come out to make room for my adult teeth - I've had to have a good few adult teeth removed too mind you because of over crowding.

I think some little gifts would be a great way to support the family. I'd also pop some cereal bars in mum's bag as, if she's anything like me, she'll go nil by mouth too in the morning so as not to upset the wee one, and then she'll be starving, shaky and good for nothing in the hospital Blush yep, that might have happened to me when I took DS in for a minor op last year

My DS had five teeth out right before Christmas, aged just 2.5. Top front four, and one behind his canine (which I wasn't expecting).

We were seen at a major teaching dental hospital as an emergency as DS had an abscess, and was quite poorly.

They were brilliant. He was in and out within 20 mins, and we were home in under 2 hours. The wounds, although they looked awful, didn't seem to bother him, and healed super quickly. He was just so happy to not be in pain I think.

He had a mixture of poor enamel (front teeth came through matt, not shiny like his other teeth), and they chipped away almost immediately. I also got told off for breastfeeding at night! Sometimes you can't do right whatever you do! I still feel awful that I made him rubbishy teeth.

The first thing I did when he woke up was bf him!!

One thing, baby teeth have huge roots!!! I have 3 older children (all totally healthy teeth), and a pulled tooth looks nothing like the little pearly things we put under pillows.

Four months on, DS eats well (he didn't before), I've managed to wean him, and he's a happy, well boy.
